I updated my phone On the 8th or 9th of December. After which portions of the lower half of my touchscreen will react to a different spot (Example: With screen vertical and using Droid keyboard touching "r" will show "t" being pressed, etc.) A small portion of the upper half does not respond, either.
Motorola Droid, bought "Certified Pre-Owned". Bought around July of this year. I have never had any problems ever before this update, even after dropping it a few times. I have not left it in extreme conditions (such as my car since it's getting really freaking cold), have not spilled anything upon it, I use the Verizon charger.
I haven't found anything about this anywhere. A friend updated his phone the night the update came out and said he had had this issue but I don't think it's as major for him. I can get around some of the annoyances by just sliding open the phone which reverts the screen to show horizontally which will allow access to what I needed to touch but in a different spot on the phone as well as the normal typing.
The other thing I was going to look up was how to revert back to an older update, possibly. I've also been meaning to root my phone but need to find my Windows laptop for that (Use a Mac mainly)
So yeah, any help would be fantastic. The issue comes and goes in certain spots and like I said, there are some ways I can get around it but some apps I end up not being able to use at all because I cannot access one specific spot on the touchscreen no matter what I try.

I think that's a little extreme as a first troubleshooting step.

I'm having the same problem. I've done everything I can to fix it - including flashing a sbf of 2.0.1. Still no fix. I'm thinking its a hardware problem?

We are aware of the issues that come with the software update and are working to resolve those issues. Until the issues are resolved, I recommend completing a factory reset for your device. It can be done through either of the following two ways:
Factory Reset option 1
From the main screen, touch menu tab
Touch Settings
Touch Privacy
Touch Factory Data reset
Touch Reset Phone
Warning: This will erase all data from your phone, including:
- Your Google account
- System and application data and settings
- Downloaded Applications
It will not erase: Current System software and bundled applications; SD Card files, such as music or Photos
Factory Reset option 2 - Warning this will reset device back to original factory settings.
- Turn off the phone
- Press Power key + "x" (on the hardware keyboard) to power on the phone and bring up the recovery screen
- Press and hold Volume Up + Camera Key until recovery menu appears, release keys when it appears
- Using the Volume keys, select "Wipe data factory Reset",
- Press the center of 5-way navigation pad
- Using the Volume keys, select Yes -- delete all user data
- Press the center of 5-way navigation pad
- Using the Volume keys select Reboot system now
- Press the center of 5-way navigation pad

I am having a similar problem. Starting as soon as I installed FRG83D the Back button (and only the back button so far) has stopped working, and periodically the touch screen is unresponsive, or seems to think I am touching somewhere else, or scrolling will rubberband back and forth quickly.
I thought this might be a hardware problem, until I realized that the back button will sometimes still work after resetting the phone, though it's getting to the point that no amount of resetting helps.
I have done a full factory reset on the phone twice and the problem is still there. Verizon was no help because I don't have insurance, so my only hope now is to root my phone and remap the buttons so Search is now Back. What an absurd chore to do after an official update ruined my phone. If this isn't fixed soon I will demand to be let out of my contract early.

I'm having the same issues... I've also tried to resetting the phone with no results. I'm hoping that Verizon can come up with some sort of resolution to this. One thing I did find is that when I am having problems, pressing the power key to put the phone to sleep then pushing it again to unlock it seems to temporarily correct the problem so that you can continue to use the phone without having to pull the battery or reset it. Hope this helps a little. Maybe they will get a fix to the issue soon.

I ended up taking my phone in to the Verizon store and because I still had a warranty they just sent me a Droid 2.

Any idea when the fix will be?
I have had the same issues with my touch screen described by others due to the OS update.
It seems that every Verizon person I have asked to help me, both in store and over the phone, has been more interested in getting me to buy a new phone...at full retail because I am not eligible for an upgrade until April 2011...than fixing my current phone!
I find it surprising that NOT ONE of the Verizon people I have talked to are aware that there is an issue with the update, yet there are several threads about it in their own forums.
And for the record, I have had my phone reset TWICE, and it does nothing to fix the issue. I was told by Verizon to reload the update, but neither Verizon phone support or in-store customer service can actually reload the OS.
And going to Motorola for the OS is also not an option...I tried that as well.
So, what will be Verizon's next best excuse I wonder?
