Has anyone else had this issue??? It happened to my whole family. All text messages just disappeaed on their own. So I rebooted my phone thinking it was a glitch with the new 2.2 upgrade, and nothing. I lost everything!
Yes, on September 9th it happened to me too. Don't know why it happened.

Yup...happened to me too. I'm so angry because I had text messages in there I was saving for blackmail. Has anyone tried emailing verizon to see if there's a way to recover them??
Same thing happened to me. Before bed last night all my 20 or so text conversation streams were present. When I looked this morning, they were gone! Is there any hope of recovering them?
this happened to me, but I don't have a task killer so it can't be that in my case at least
I am using a task manager- it has never deleted messages before, but believe mine happened when clearing the phone dialer cache - why the dialer I don't know, and save/protect should be save/protect I've not determined how to get rid of all the battery slurping/memory hogging/google data stealing apps that were installed or reactivated with this last s/w upgrade. Had it so that the battery was at least lasting a full day without dying. Now I'm back to a few hours again. Love this phone, HATE Google, and despised the lack of easy control on the apps, Being able to uninstall should not be this difficult and I shouldn't have to opt out of sharing my info. It should be opt in. End of rant for this morning.
I lost all of my text messages last night too. Very upset had some that were locked with addresses & info. Hopefully someone can tell us what the problem is so this doesn't happen again. Don't think its the Advanced Task Killer been using that as long as I've had my phone. Thanks
This happend to me also...last night. I went to reply to a text and ALL messages GONE!!!! I called Verizon and they said nothing they could do. They tech told me that he had never heard of this happening, but obviously it has by all of your posts. I downloaded and APP called SMS Saver lite. ( A little too late for a years worth of messages) but I tested it last nite and it seems to work. It will back up all your messages so you may restore them if this happens again. These phones can do almost everything, so tell me why there isn't an option to save these texts to the hard drive or media card?????? They are text...wouldn't take that much space. Come on HTC get on the ball. This is like loosing all of your emails
This happened to me for the very first time a few days ago. I had tried out the GOSMSPro app a few days before this happened, however, I don't think it has anything to do with it. I do not know what causes this, but this was the first time it happened.
I was fine however, as all my txts were being backed up using the SMSBackup app from market to a seperate gmail account that I setup for this purpose only.
Search Market on SMS Backup. I am using the one by Christoph Studer.

This happened to me as well, just yesterday. Any update on why it happened or if there is any chance in recovering our old text messages? I use the included app for text messages (haven't downloaded anything special). I do use a task killer but it has been installed on my phone since I purchased it in April. The last text message I received before everything disappeared was a free text message from Verizon Wireless ... Something about an update had been sent to my phone. Next time I turned my phone on, all my text messages were gone. Why did this happen? Has anyone contacted Verizon about this?
It's happened to me twice already. I'm not too happy about that... and even my locked messages as well.
My phone as just seemed to been acting up a lot lately... and I want to say since I've upgraded...
I drop a lot more calls, lose text messages, and my phone will randomly turn off and turn off without doing it myself.
This happened to me as well. It has happened 3 times - and I've lost all of my conversations and locked messages without warning (no force close, etc.). This morning, the 3rd time, it said I had 2 new messages and when I touched the "message" button, the folder was completely empty. This did not happen until after the 2.2 upgrade. I was reading some forums which said that the task killer is no longer needed with 2.2 (its designed to have apps running) so I uninstalled it. I will see if it deletes my text conversations w/out the task killer.
I have not lost any texts. I use Handcent for the app and I never have used app killers. Are texts killed in this program as well or only the stock messaging version?
I have had SIX (6), yes SIX HTC Incredible's since March 2, 2011. EVERY single one of them had a multitude of problems, and deleting my text messages randomly was one. I don't use Task Killer, and right now the only app that I have added to this device is the SMS Backup/Restore app that will restore the back up of my text messages. I will just need to schedule an appointment once a week to back up my text messages so that way when this POS device decides to delete them I can at least restore to a recent time frame.
Verizon has NO way of helping to restore the lost text messages....
That happened to me several months ago and I got SMS Backup, worked great and kept my locked ones the next time it struck and restored all the rest. Then it happen yesterday and SMS Backup says it has never been backed up and has no data to restore!!! My phone keeps corrupting my apps and they force close! Driving me crazy between them!
Been having many phone issues. Started off with Apps not opening, couldnt even open App market. cleared Cache on everything I could even unistalled some apps that i rarely use. Rebooted phone and almost 30o LOCKED messages from my boyfreind were gone!!! And I am also having the power off and on by itself issue. BTW, indepentantly owned verizon store workers are comepletely useless. I was told by one guy that i needed to go back to factory reset becasue I probably had a virus on my phone. After a little more messing around I tried to go to My Verizon on my phone and it said it need to be upgraded. When I clicked upgrade all the other apps i had been having problems popped up as needing upgrades. so I upgraded all the apps, fixed the app issue. then was unable to receive or send texts! Then realized I couldnt make calls either! was redirected to call #8899. Lady told me phone was not recognized so she reset it from her end. Got calls adn regular texting back but I am still unable to text pictures!!!!
