Android Workshops

While at the Verizon store(s) tonight, there was a flyer for Android Workshops being held at various Verizon Wireless stores around the city.  I signed up to go to one on Sunday (only about an hour).  Has anyone gone to something like this?

I've never been to one but I have read the same type of flyer @ my local store back when the Droid X first released.  It was basically an intro session on how to use your phone.  They show some tricks and how to use things as a large majority of those buying these devices have only had basic cell phones.

I received an Email from Verizon telling me that they are having the one hour workshop on line today and tomorrow. I signed up for one. I'm sure that my Verizon stores are also offering these same workshops, but I have not seen any flyer.

Do they provide a link to this on-line tutorial?  I would be interested in that also.

You have to preregister, and the workshop is tomorrow at 11:00 am EST. You might want to take a run to your local Verizon store and see if they are offering workshops as well.

I went to see the guy in my area when I got my first smartphone which was WinMo.  I wanted to learn how to best keep my phone optimized and cleaned of clutter since it had a serious memory leak problem.  When I got there I actually had figured everything out for myself.  But what the worst that could happen by going?  You would have lost an hour of your time.  The best?  You learn some cool new tricks that you didn't know before.

Went to the Android workshop today.  I was surprised and pleased to see about 30 people there.  This was a very basic class; the guy started out by explaining how to turn on the phone.  Other topics included removing, moving and adding shortcuts/widgets, setting up contacts and using GPS.  I got a bit bored and left early, but this would be good workshop for anyone who is new to Android or to smartphones in general.  Nice of VW to provide this.

I went to one of the on-line workshops. Didn't get much out of it which was new to me. As was already said, it was very basic. I did get one or two good tips. It was worth it though. It would be invaluable to newbies.

Its great Verizon offers these workshops but I would like to see an advanced workshop, that is one I would sign up for in a heartbeat.

That's sort of what I was hoping for.  In addition to an advanced or at least an intermediate class, it might be more helpful to have it focus on a particular phone (or at least brand).  The guy today was using an Incredible (hooked up to a large screen TV), and the audience was using Motorola and Samsung, in addition to HTC.  So, there were some slight differences between what he was demonstrating and what some of us Motorola users had.  A lady next to me was having some trouble following along on her Droid X.  I was about to help her, when a store employee approached her.  Classes might also need to be smaller...a lot of people had questions (mostly about differences in the UI), and there were only three staff available to help.
