I have a Droid Charge, but my question is more of a generic Android question.
Is it absolutely necessary to have a Google gmail account in order for Android to operate? If not, how do I get around it?
You will need a Google/Gmail account in order to access the Android Market, Google+ and Google Talk. There might be other Google Apps that are tied to a Gmail account as well.
