Just wanted to ask if maybe there is an antenna problem with the Droid-X.
Seems there is zero coverage at my desk at work, but the coverage map shows excellent coverage. Nor is there a signal near most of the windows. And only one bar outside the building. This is in and around 2733 Crystal Drive, Crystal City Va.
I mean, from my desk I can see the rooftop of the building across the way and it has cell phone transmitters on it...
What gives?
Thanks!

There isn't an issue with the signal of the Droid X. It actually pulls a better signal than any other phone I have owned. Any area that shows excellent coverage can have dead spots. Also just because you can see a cell tower doesn't mean it's not a CDMA tower or it could be an emergency transmission tower or a tower VZW doesn't have rights to.
Just to test it out, make sure your Preferred Roaming List is up to date with a *228 option 2. You can also cycle off your phone and back on to see if you acquire a new tower ie better signal.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

I agree with crb74. Never, in 12 years of using cell phones, from Nokia to my LG have I ever had more that two bars. With the Droid X, I always get 4 bars, the maximum.

Well, we've already seen with the iPhone that the bars can be incorrectly calculated (intentionally or accidently is another debate). So, makes you wonder if what you're seeing is accurate.

You can use Real Signal, free in the market place, to show you the exact decibel levels of your signal.

The cell strength mapping app named Sensorly has very weak cell signal in the general area of the address you listed above.
This would go along with what I was saying about weak spots within a coverage area. A lot of big office buildings actually install devices to counter the signal loss caused by the building itself. The buildings can also cause a shadowing effect in the surrounding area.
