Re: Any Help or Response from Verizon or HTC Regarding Problematic Update For OG Droid Incredible??

They pushed out an "update" that interferes and ultimately eliminates promised functionality for the purpose forcing consumers either to take the 2G plan, or pay an extra $350 for the replacement device.  (VZW will offer to provide a replacement Incredible, but the problem will reoccur because the issue is with the software, not the hardware.)  It's an incredibly poor and, I believe, unlawful business practice.  I can't imagine how a practice could be more deceptive!  Purchasers bargained and paid for unlimited data plans, Verizon Wireless benefited from those plans while consumers weren't running over limits and now want to throttle us back when they no longer like the bargain they made.  That's just unfair and the courts would never, I hope, permit it.  Small claims court seems sensible - a class action would be even better.  I've notified the FTC, the FCC and the New York State Attorney General's office.  I urge other customers to file complaints as well.

Is there a fix for this yet? I got the update 2 weeks ago and have been rebootin in the middle of the night ever since.  The nights I forget to put my phone on silent, I get woken up with a loud DROID sounds at 2AM!  Today was the first day that I needed to use my phone about 5AM and had to take the battery out to finally get it to stop the reboot loop.  I thought this was only supposed to last for a couple days.

Maybe it's time for a factory reset and this includes setting it to not re-install your applications and settings from the previous setup.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Try doing a factory reset.  Then don't load any applications that didn't come with the phone.  Limit texts to three each day, and power the device down whenever you're not making a phone call.  Their technician told me to <Deleted per the TOS> or get a new one!  And a new, 2Gig limited data plan!

I did this yesterday, and the first time in two months did not get nightly reboots

wipe the cache partition (this will not delete your data or apps):

Boot into recovery

    1. Press and hold Power, Choose "Restart" option
    2. When screen turns off, press and hold Volume Down and Power
  1. When the white HBOOT screen appears, use the volume button to move down to “RECOVERY.”
  2. Press the Power button to select “RECOVERY.”
  3. When the Green Arrows and\or triangle and exclamation appears, hold the Volume Up and Power button at the same time.
  4. Using the volume button, scroll down to “Wipe cache partition” and select it (power button).
  5. Select "Reboot system now"

Then dialed *228 hit option 1.   Seemed to fix it at least 1 day...

Just wish I could turn off the annoying reminders to update the system.

everything you described is android problems not device or software

do you have advanced task killer, lookout, battery manager, any other apps that control your phone for no reason?

when you did a factory reset how did you do that, did you just reinstall every single app you had?

your phone is restarting due to a corrupt app, finding it is the challenge
