Apps from old Droid to Droid Charge???

I sync to google all the time, plus I have a backup software that I back up to.................. but I cannot seem to get the contents of my old SD card to my new phone, which is the Charge.

I downloaded the old cards content with all my apps to my computer and then put the new 32GB card into the Charge and told it to transfer everything back to the card in the phone................it acted like it was doing it.....it took a while and then ....... nothing!

My apps are not on my new phone.

Any help to get this done would be appreciated!!

You have to go into the market and redownload your apps. Your apps are NOT on the SDcard. If you already paid for the apps you don't have to pay for them again.

I use Rerware and it backs up my applications also, to my SD card or online.  I picked SD card.  Funny, with the charge attached to the computer they all show up as they are there...but they're not.......

The verizon person said all I had to do is take the "folder" and drag it over to the new phone??????

It isn't going to work like you think it does... You do not have privileges of the system folders which you need to do a full restore or backup.

Sorry, but I can't discuss how you would need those privileges or how to obtain them.  Best to check out XDA for that information and a tutorial as to why.

The backup from MyBackup Pro saves installation APKs to the SD card. To restore them you need to first go to Settings->Applications and check Unknown sources. Then you will need to go to MyBackup and select Restore->Applications & Media->Local and select the backupset that you want to restore from. Once you have selected the backup set, you will have the option of selecting which apps that you want to restore. For each app that you are restoring, you will need to follow the install prompts.

All that being said, it is much easier to just go into Market and install all of your paid apps and find the free ones and install them. You can then use MyBackup to reinstall the ones that may not be on Market or ones that have been hosed by the devs making changes. (It has been known to happen :smileywink:) None of your app data with the exception of some apps that are MyBackup aware will be restored due to Android security limitations unless you have done the unspeakable thing to your phone. (at least unspeakable on these forums)

when I hit the backupset that I want, I get this errror: I/O error:unable to write to SD card. Make sure the SD Card is inserted properly and is not connected to hyour PC, and is not full.  THIS IS WITH THE NEW SD CARD IS IN THERE.

I get the same error when the old card from the Motorola Droid is put in the Charge.....   I'm stumped.

I don't use this app, but I found the following information on the Rerware website in FAQS, hope it helps.

When I try to do a backup or restore, I am getting a DB or SD Card IO error, how can I resolve this?

This is an SD Card error. First, make sure you have enough free space on the SD card to create a backup (even online backups need temporary space to create a backup), and also make sure the phone is not connected to the PC when doing a Backup or a Restore. If there is still a problem, try to uninstall the application, reboot the phone (turn off and back on), and install it again. If there is still a problem, you may need to format your SD Card.

Thank you for your feedback, everyone!

The Droid Operating System will not allow the transfer of applications from device to device.

If  you did purchase an application, you should be able to have that paid application transfer as soon as you set up your original GMail email account.

Google Sync will only sync your contacts (if you saved them as Google contacts), mail & calendar.

Additionally, you are not able to save those downloaded applications on to the SD card.

Those applications would need to be downloaded to the new/replacement phone all over again.

You could use an app such My Backup pro ..to back up your apps to your SD Card. But I have found that when you install your apps to your new  phone from the backup...the market place does not recoginize those apps on your phone. And you will never get notified when there is an update .
