Apps turning themselves on?

My battery dies quickly, so I downloaded "Advanced Task Killer Free".  It seems to kill apps I'm not currently using, BUT, the next time I look, almost every app on the phone is on.  City ID, Skype Mobile, Mobile IM, Docs, Backup Assistant, Everything.  Is there some way to keep all the apps from launching themselves?  I can only go 6 hours on a change sometimes.

Don't install a task killer. You are not letting the OS figure out what is most used and what needs to be cached.

Thanks for the response.  Now, how do I uninstall an app?  (Such as "Advanced App Killer Free")

Or, can I just turn off an app, I mean, keep it off until I want it?

Just because you see it doesn't mean it is running. Android is a Linux based system where the rule is empty ram is wasted ram. So it'll cache your listed use applications. Over time Android will figure out what you do and don't use and adjust accordingly. The task killer will stop the OS from doing this.
