Thinking of using my upgrade on a Droid X or waiting for a newer 4G phone. The Droid X seems to be a good value with the newer 4G phones coming out. In addition to web use, I'd also like to do a lot more camera and camcorder usage, plus music streaming at work.
However I don't want to get into a 2 yr contract and regret not waiting for one of the 4G droids coming out this year. However again, if users are generally happy with the speeds of the 3G network, maybe I should go ahead and get one.

Well as Droid X owner i will tell Ya its a good Phone Many Great Features,Streams Music, An Videos Very Well on Wi-Fi, An't bad at Picture Taking. Texting is Great, Email is Good, Can Download a Host of Ringtones or wallpapers from Zedge, On mine I'm streaming Music From Winamp as i'm Typing this. But as with any Phone Like a Computer there is some things it Likes,No 4 G or the Ability to get it, Speeds at times are alittle slow But as i said improve with wi-fi Picture Taking could be alittle Better especially at Night, Though Daytime Picture Takeing in the Right light is great as i took some picture of 3985 U.P.'s Largest operating Steam engine. But if you wanting Faster speeds useing the Network 4 G is for you an as you probably read T-Bolt is out an there are More Phones to Come. that will be faster than the X But changes in the Data plans is going to be a little Different than what we've had . Now they havent changed yet but it's coming. So the ball is in your Court. an you have to Decide 2 points or go for the Big 3 . Have fun choosing an let us know what you decide to go with.

I listen to the radio while I'm outside with no problems at all. Surfing the net is excellant. I take pictures and video and am quite pleased with them, as are the people I show them to. If you want the faster speed, the Thunderbolt is out, but much more expensive then the Droid X. Plus, one thing to keep in mind, comes summer, and Verizon will be tiering their data plan. Currently, I have the unlimited plan for $30 and with Radio, the net, etc. I probably use quite a bit of data. I haven't been looking at the amount, but I sure will to see what my average data use really is.

Very happy with the 3G speeds on this phone. Any "drop outs" during streaming tends to be more of a "signal strength" issue itself, like when I'm outside walking around - it's not the "3G speed". If you don't have a strong signal to begin with, it will lag or drop.

Droid Bionic is rumored to be released 4/21, 2 1G processors but with only 512mb of memory. I'd wait and see, plus it gives time for the bugs to be shaken from the TBolt. My wife has the Droid X, dropped her overall time on her laptop, has no problems with 3G in the Phoenix area, and has saved her many time with the accessing the web or GPS when needed. Currently Sam's has a deal for the Droid X to be free. Also note, 4G if it is available in your area is about 12mb download and 3mb up verses 3G which is 1.5mb down and 0.5mb up.

I read that others have no complaints, but I find on 3G, webpages take very long to load (up to 30 seconds) and streaming video is almost not worth the effort (start/stops, distorted video).
Maybe, it's the tower strength where I live and work, but I am in a major metro area.
As a phone, for phone use, email, text, video, camera, music, etc., the X is outstanding.
The ONLY drawback in my opinion is the fact that it isn't 4G. Without wifi, I wouldn't bother with an X. But, that's because I tend to use it for heavily for multimedia. It's not the phone's fault the 3G network doesn't provide the speeds to make that an optimal experience.

A lot of the speed slow down in terms of download speed is due to network congestion. Once more of the 4G is rolled out and they implement the changes there will be about a 20X increase in network capacity for each tower. So if 1 tower can handle 500 simultaneous 3G connections it will now be able to handle in the area of 10k. If a tower can handle 10 connections, it will then handle 200 and so on.
4G towers are also backwards compatible with 3G EVDO rev A & B signals, they just won't reach 4G speeds. 3.1 Mbit/s is the max for the EVDO rev A equiped Droid X. However word is that the VZW 4G system will be augmented with EVDO Rev B as the current 4G LTE lineup is both 4G/3G rev A&B compatible. With this said it is entirely possible that your average user will indeed see increased speeds once their area has full 4G rollout.
The down-side to the whole 4G thing is that many supposed 4G covered areas will only be 3G evdo Rev B areas. Rev B has a max speed of about 4.9mbits, true 4G is supposed to be around 12mbits. I guess we just have to wait and see.
