Assigning Ringtones

Sorry if this has already been discussed but I am on my way to work in a few minutes and don't have the time to search the forum .

Is it possible to assign specific ringtones to specific contacts?  As a former iPhone user, there is so much more to learn about the Droid X than the iPhone.

TIA,

Louise in Houston

Yes it is possible.  Open the contact window, then click on the + button scroll to the bottom of the list and click "additional info" From there scroll to the bottom and look for "Call Handling" below it is Ringtone and a down arrow, click down arrow and pick ringtone.  Simply save this over your existing contact.

You can download the app called Ringo Lite. That is a wonderful app. It lets you assign a ringtone to text messages to specific contacts or a caller ringtone.

Figured out where the ringers are stored and figured out that you can drop your mp3s in the Phone Files/Media/Audio/Ringtones folder location through file explorer, also I have been able to delete the useless ringer files from this folder also...

Thanks Wildman,  Just got my "X" on Thursday and was trying to figure out how to do custom ringtones.  Had them on my Omnia 1.  Android OS is much different than WinMo so I have to learn lots of new was to do things. But now have my custom ringtones working ....

Really like this phone and the large screen is awesome.

No longer, Patiently/Impatiently waiting for the release of the Droid X.  (I'm now patiently waiting for the rollout of Verizon's LTE)

Are you using default explorer because that is strange?  If you cant see it you can try hooking to pc an connect as USB Mass Storage and see if you see it there, you can copy them there also...

Maybe you can make the directory and see if it sees the files after a restart because the only thing I can think of that could have possibly made that folder was when I installed Ringo Lite maybe but I didnt like that the only way I could use MP3s was with the full version so I instantly uninstalled it.  Maybe this folder was left overs from uninstall process.

You can custom your own ringtones if you have the song in MP3 format.  I was able to create a ringtone using the theme song from Sons of Anarchy using myxer.  All you have to do is upload the song, select the section you want as a ringtone, then send it to your phone via text.  Once received, you save it to your music folder and walla, you very own ringtone.
