I'm new to the Droid X and I was wondering how to assign ringtones that I've already downloaded from other apps as the ringtones for my text messages. Every time I try to put one of the songs that I've downloaded already as the ringtone for my text messaging, the only ones that show up are the default alerts that came with the phone. Can anyone help me with this problem?

Where are these music tones stored on the phone? SD card or memory? And you might have to store the tones in the audio folder, if they aren't already.
I wish I could dive into this further, but I'd have to get into the phone to do it. Someone else her should be able to give you the correct rundown on that.

As far as I know, the ringtones are stored on the card. I'm not sure though. I tried what you said and I'm not having any luck though. I'll keep searching for a way. Thanks

Come to think of it, I believe I have always done my file-moving on my PC south the phone connected. I don't know if they can be moved around without a PC. Its hard to believe that they can't be moved, I just don't know.
I remember having this issue with a Droid Eris last November. Once I got the music files in the right place, all was well. Of course, your mileage may vary.
Good luck,

I've always used RingDroid app to create ringtones. Then use the app Ringo Lite to apply a ringtone to text messages. I can see the ringtones I made with RingDroid on Ringo Lite

Great, have you ever run into Ringdroid telling you that it doesn't recognize OGG files when, in fact, those files are mp3 files that I imported to my X from my notebook?
Thanx, Geri O
Can't say that I have Gerio. Although we don't have the same phones remember

Ahh, that's right. Maybe my issue is an X thing. Since I had the 32gig card, I just uploaded wav files to the phone. Perhaps the X converted them...
You know, I have a data line on my account that I hardly use since I got the X, I'm considering getting an Incredible just to play with and hopefully talk my girlfriend into using. She thinks she's too behind-the-times to use a smartphone, all the while playing with my phone constantly. I had been lusting after the Dinc until they became hard to get in June. Then the X came out and I thought "there will be plenty of them, so I'll look into it, too." Boy, that panned out well, eh?...
I should take the time to explore the audio files on the phone to see what happened to them, just a matter of making the time. I'm used to using Audacity to make ringtones, but Ringdroid definitely makes the job easier, especially if you buy music OTA.
Ahh, well, I'll figure out something this week. No shows this weekend, so there's hope...
Thanx, Great ,

Nonsense of how she is "too behind". Just get her a smart phone. If she has any issues or questions, she has an expert (you, gerio) by her side. You can teach her about the phone & such
