Greetings!
Strange problem here.
My phone keeps resetting its default ring tone to "network extender". The synthetic voice actually says the words.
Very annoying in that the reset seems to happen on its own daily.
I set the default to another ring tone (don't matter which one), then later it is back to "network extender".
I make the setting either in the main settings in the app area or in the phone settings.
Android version 4.1.2 (a flavor of jellybean)
System version: 98.72.22.XT875
Cheers!

Do you have a network extender?
You might try a system cache clear; it shouldn't erase any of your data:
Power down phone
Hold volume up/down & power simultaneously until you see the Boot Mode Selection Menu
Use volume down to navigate to 'Recovery', use volume up to select
Should see screen with triangle and exclamation point next to an Android
Press volume up/down simultaneously to go into system recovery *
Use volume rocker to navigate to 'wipe cache' and use power button to select
Once finished, use volume rocker to navigate to 'reboot system now' and use power button to select
* if doesn't work:
press and hold the volume down and wait for a second or two, then press and hold the volume up and the volume down buttons for 5-6 seconds and then release

tikibar1,
thanks for a quick post!
I had to look up "network extender". Seems like its a hardware device to put into my home to help the signal if needed.
Maybe I should get one, because my signal strength does get low at times.
Anyway, I just cleared the cache and will see if that stabilizes the issue.
Been awhile since I did clear the cache and hope it works.
I'll follow up later.

Sorry, but it already went back to the "network extender" ring tone
I received no calls but a few texts which uses a different tone.

Well, boo. I have never heard of this before and did a search; found an old thread but apparently resetting the ringtone fixed it. The only other thing I could suggest is to back everything up, remove the SD card to be on the safe side, and try a factory reset.

Been 4 days since I tried something and it seems to be working!
The annoying wav file "NetworkExtender.wav" was found to be in the path /system/media/audio/eri/
I renamed it to xxxNetworkExtender.wavxxx and moved it up one folder. When I left it in the folder, it still switched to it somehow.
Didn't want to remove it completely in case that would cause other problems afterward.
So far, the ring tone stays on my fav, old bell type phone (a real phone ).
However the vib keeps turning itself on which is not so bad.
So, a bit of a tweek, but I am happy and wanting to put this out there of anyone else that it affects.
