I've been getting this message since I did the update last week. Can anyone suggest a solution to me or point me to an existing conversation about this? Thanks!

Can you login ONLINE to the site??
www.verizonwireless.com/backupassistant
That should get you into the Account & make sure it's up and working properly, first ... After that, the PIN must be correct for the phone to access it ... Is it??
Just some ideas to get you started.

Also if the information it on Backup assistance and you still cant access the backup I suggest Try Importing all contacts to Google and then all you have to do is check the double entries and select delete..
1. Log into Verizon Backup Assistant
2. Click on Export to CSV
3. Save File as (or Rename to) Contacts (it should already be converted to CSV so including .csv is redundant)
4. Log into Gmail/Google Voice
5. Click on Contacts
6. Click on Import
7. Browse for the Contacts (.csv) file
8. Click Import
9. Disable BA by going to Settings / Applucations . Manage Applications / All Tab / Sync Service / Clear All
All contacts on youir device should sync to Google... Now I do say should because no software is perfect.

@Wildman - can you explain something to me/us ? What is the point of BackupAssistant if we're already "syncing" with Google Contacts? Is seems like duplicate software - except that my Google Contacts is actually fully-sync'd whereas my BackupAssistant contains only 20% of my contacts. Do you use both?

There is no point to use Backup Assistant if you are syncing contacts with Google. That would be redundant.
I used BA and did not sync to Google Contacts when I first got my X. When I upgraded to Gingerbread, I noticed that there was a problem with dates between BA and my contacts on my phone. I exported my contact to Google Contacts, disabled BA, and have never been happier.

best solution is to stop using backup assistant and use Google as your backup method. All your contacts are saved on your gmail account anyway and I have found absolutely no reason for the use of backup assistant on an android phone.
