Battery Life Oddity

So far I'm quite shocked at the battery life of my Droid X.  I charged it 100% last night, left it in standby mode with most tasks killed and this morning it was completely dead.  Now I'm new to smart phones but at this rate I'll be charging it 2-3 times a day.  And that's with very little phone talk usage.  Ugh!

Was using it this evening and drained battery from 90% to 50% just playing around with apps and making two 10 minute  phone calls.  This was over the course of about 4 hours.  Then I completely powered down the phone for a couple minutes.  When I turned it back on, the battery level was back up to 80%.  I clueless how this happened.  Has anyone else experienced this oddity?

Hope this helps.

-Proper App/Task killer

-USE THE BATTERY MANAGER ON THE PHONE

-Brightness Settings

-Keep GPS, bluetooth, and auto sync off if you don't absolutely need it.

-Live Wallpapers KILL with this particular phone because of the massive screen, the display takes up like 80% usage on your battery.

-Battery Saver App

I'm sure there's more options to disable and what not.

Also, the battery fluctuation, it's probably just wearing in the battery.

Any other questions feel free to ask.

I have had a simuliar problem.  I always cycle my batteries when I get them. I charge to full let it fun down untill phone powers off then recharge to full. I do that 3 times. After the first cycle my battery lasted 11hrs before it powered down the phone. So Ihooked it up to the charger for it's 2nd cycle. well with in less then 5mins. it was at 0% charged then went to 60% in less then 5mins. I was like wtf. then about 1 hr or 2 later it was full charged. first cycle it took about 6 hrs to fully charge. I am currently seeing how many hrs it takes this time to power down. I also seen on phone where it tells you how many hrs off  since last time it was unpluged but now I can't find it. Anyone know where that option is on phone.
