I decided to change the standard battery out today for the extended one. The battery cover is certainly most secure in its attachment. I had to use a thin credit card to help pry it off while pulling on the slot with my fingernail. It's good to know that the cover will stay in place unlike my original Droid 1 which had loose cover syndrome until Motorola made a design change.
