Bionic Balloon Popped Already

Wow, where to begin? First this phone is hyped all summer, then when it comes time to release it, no expenses are sparred in marketing and hype. The reps all had the cool black shirts, and it was the cat's meow. Then when many people got the phone, it turns out that there are more bugs than warm hot summer night, to which Verizon acknowledges and politely starts to say that an update will be pushed in early November.
Now the most frustrating part. I am a sucker. I fell for all the hype, burned my upgrade on this phone, only to find out that one month later Motorola will be releasing the world thinnest smartphone with Verizon called the RAZR. The specs are totally fantastic, and it looks like it will put the Bionic to shame. Please notice, I am not even trying to compare this announcement to the Nexus Prime which is another manufacturer completely. I am extremely upset with Verizon's upper development team, who clearly knew that Motorola would be dropping this bomb. When they are a month apart, there are people who knew this was in the pipeline. Now all Bionic owners who thought they were buying the flagship for at least a few good months, are left with a $299 has been.
So in the end, I sit and wait for my bugs to go away a month from now, while Verizon shoves this phone aside to get a new batch of T-shirts ready for it's CSR's. Sure hope they don't forget about the Bionic when Ice Cream Sandwich starts to get pushed out.
As a customer for years, this is the first time I have felt this let down by Big Red. Not sure what my future moves will be.

ditto. If they can fix this Bionic phone, I will be ok with it. But, as it is, I feel really ripped off and I have to wait now for an upgrade for 2 more years. Can you buy the iPhone from Apple for a decent price or does it also require a new 2 year contract.

you would have to pay full price unless you signed a 2 year contract
but since you just signed one, that is not an option, unless you add a line and have a second line for 2 years

When they pulled the Bionic and reported a total redesign I knew this wasn't a good thing and once I seen it I was glad I grabbed the TB, looked like to me that Motorola had a bunch of parts left from the Droid X and X2 that they needed to use or loose....
Also the ideal that they pulled the Targa processor that they bragged so highly of and replaced it with a Texas Instruments OMAP processor that really was a smack in the face because developers are making a number of apps Targa complaint that only run on a device with that processor.
I also think the term Flagship device is thrown around a lot, Verizon never really reported any of their recent devices as a flagship device, look at the droid X, they hyped it more than the Bionic and the device was old news in about 3 months before they bragged about the Thunderbolt because it was first 4g device and about another 3 months it was set aside for the next released device.
Sales persons push the latest released devices no matter what because that's what they are payed for.. Its called marketing and this is how the game works..

yeah, there really aren't flagship phones in the US. Everyone like to believe that their device is a "flagship" but it's just an overused buzzword. "But the Thunderbolt was Verizon's 1st 4G LTE phone, it's a flagship". No. "But the Bionic was the first dual core LTE phone on Verizon, it's a flagship." No again. I'd also hazard to say that the OG Droid was the only true flagship device that Verizon has had. Being a flagship takes marketing, future proof tech, and continued support which just isn't there in todays tech market with upgraded versions being produced every 3-6 months. The Galaxy Nexus has the potential to be a flagship device but we'll see how Verizon decides to mess that up.

I hate to pop your balloon again, but if you call Motorola, they will inform you that there is no update coming for the Bionic.
Lotsa balloon poppin' goin' on 'round here....
My geekbuddys at the local store have been informed that an update is indeed in the works.
Moto's policy is to deny anything upcoming until they make a formal announcement about it. What your sentence should have said is "...but if you call Motorola, they will inform you that there is no update coming for the Bionic that we are prepared to talk about at this point in time"
Common sense should prevail here, they HAVE to do something about that trainwreck of a phone. I'm done with it, but I do believe there is hope for it down the road. When I asked my buddies if they were getting complaints about the Bionic, they get that look on their face that says "you have no idea". One of those guys has a Bionic and they are all witness (and I believe them, they've always been straight up with me) that his phon has been perfect from day 1 (after its SIM card had to be activated in a Thunderbolt). Amazing. I wish him well.
