My original Motorola Droid came with a Car application for hand-free dialing, navigation, etc. With my Bionic, do I have to buy a car kit for this software? Motorola's car mount kit won't look very good in my Honda Element

How would you use the navigation without the car mount? By holding the phone?
Use a bluetooth headset for handsfree dialing. Much safer than holding the phone.
The car mount is not a permenant mount. You can take it off when your not in the car.

I have a 3rd party vent mount for my original Droid and ran the Car application from there. The specs I've read about my new Droid Bionic say that the Car application will run with the Motorola Bionic car kit.. There isn't a seperate app loaded on my Bionic that I can see. I'm looking for an navigation application that will stay visible and won't let the screen blank out after 30 seconds.
Yes I have a bluetooth device, etc. Google Maps still lets the phone screen go blank after 30 seconds, when run under my old Car application, it wouldn't blank out.

i would look for an app or widget before i went and bought a car kit. but honestly, with the voice commands, i don't quite see the point. i simply tell it where to navigate and it starts the turn by turn directions and when a call come in i just answer it on speaker phone. i don't care for mounts so i use velcro.

You could try your own version of that strategically-placed magnet in tandem with however you are willy nilly placing your phone (although I'm hesitant to, suggest sticking magnets around any electronic device)

I meant willy nilly placing magnets around your phone.
You might play with a small magnet on the left side of the phone, since that side is down in the Moto car dock. But be careful (not like my proofreading...
