I am a new Motorola Droid 3 user. I have tried 3 different blueteeth....a Jabra BT135, a Plantronics 520 and a Samsung HM3500. All three have the same issues. 1.) the connection between the earpiece and the phone breaks frequently. Sometimes when this happens, the phone automatically goes to speakerphone, sometimes not. 2.) it does not recognize many of the contact names and the names that it gives as options aren't even close. 3.) Frequently it will say "Opening message" when I request it to make a call. The issues defeat the purpose of hands free, since I usually have to pull off of the road and manually use the contact list to make a simple phone call or to reconnect the bluetooth.

algaeb,
Good morning!
I've been researching this Bluetooth concern for you. I know bluetooth is a big benefit to most everyone nowadays. I have found very little information from other users having issues w multiple Bluetooth. This leads me to believe this is related to your device specifically and not the Droid 3 in general. Please PM me your name and mobile number so I can help further!
Thank you!

My current theory based on my tests is that the bluetooth seems to become unstable after a certain amount of apps are running. Unless there was a batch of droid 3 devices with bad bluetooth hardware I am inclined to believe it is the bluetooth software.

Another thought I had was it was the "BluetoothDUN" process that may be causing it. I ended it, and tried another conversation. The result was a failure.
This means my original theory is still valid. Does anyone have any input or similar experiences. Furthermore, could people post the apps they have downloaded & installed, to see if we can find a correlation there?
The VZW store employee who I spoke with when I had the issue with my original phone suggested that it could be an older bluetooth adapter causing the issue. However, I can see this causing issues with disconnecting, but once the system disconnects, the bluetooth on the phone is supposed to be smart enough to disconnect the bluetooth. I noticed that bluetooth was still showing "connected" in the top menu bar. This leads me to believe that the bluetooth unit in the phone is defective (indicating there is a rash of defective bluetooth devices), or the software is buggy.

Unfortunately my original theory was invalidated as well. I did further testing yesterday and uncovered 2 things. The first is that on my phone, the initial call seems to be ok. All subsequent phone calls seem to have the issue. This leads me to believe that the bluetooth disconnect on the phone is somehow not working.
The other thing I noticed was that I got it to a point where I could not pair the phone under normal conditions, I actually had to go in to the Wireless & Network settings menu and manually connect, even though it saw the bluetooth device as available.
Does verizon have any thoughts they would like to share?

Hi Mordhelm,
I understand your discontent. I would be frustrated if my Bluetooth connection failed at random. I checked my resources and this issue is not noted as a known issue with this device. This issue could be the result of some third party app conflict. Run your Droid 3 on Safe Mode for while using your Bluetooth device and see if this resolves the issue. Safe Mode temporarily disables all applications that have been installed via the Android Market. Performing this troubleshooting step is necessary to determine whether a 3rd party application is the cause of an Operating System / Application issue.
If issue continues while running phone in safe mode the next troubleshooting step will be to do a Factory Reset. Please keep in mind that performing a hard reset will remove ALL data including the Google account, system data, application data, application settings, and downloaded applications.

AntonioC,
In response to the third party app being the issue, I had no apps installed (the only additional apps I had installed were the Gun Bros app and the Facebook app, both of which I uninstalled during my testing on the second phone), and still had the problem. I have already tried the factory reset twice (on the first phone), to no avail. Basically after using the phone for a few days, the bluetooth connection starts randomly failing again.
What I have noticed is that the bluetooth app stays "connected" on the menu bar. But when I dig into Settings->Wireless & networks->Bluetooth Settings, it will show that I am not connected to any of the devices I am paired with.
I do not like the idea of having to factory reset my phone just so I can use the bluetooth connection.
Also, I noticed a new problem. My speaker phone is broken as well. I don't know if this is an artifact of the other issue, but basically when I put people on speaker phone two days ago, the connection was muted. My thought is that it is related.
Again, this is the second phone I have had issues with. I do not like the Droid 3 anymore, and am seriously considering switching providers to get a phone that works. I saw online when I tried to replace my phone originally that the 30 day customer satisfaction guarantee was still in effect (this was a few weeks ago). The website has since been changed, but the verizon store refused to honor the 30 day guarantee and told me it was either a replacement droid 3 or just deal with the issue until there is an OTA fix.

Verizon changed their 30 day return policy with a 14 day return policy back in February, I believe.

While true, the website still had a statement that a 30 Customer Satisfaction Guarantee was in effect (it had different wording, and was actually called the Customer Satisfaction Guarantee, versus just the return policy).
