Button lights work intermittently

Button lights on bottom of Droid X Motorola only work intermittently. Phone is 10 months old. Is there a quick fix?

Are you using a case? I've heard cases can affect this. I've noticed this in mine as well, but haven't had the issue since taking the case off

Thanks I think that may have fixed it. It is not a hard case but a slip in leather with a magnet which also causes the car dock to come on sometimes but did not think about the lights.  Thanks for replying.
