Camera Button fell off

Received my Droid X 5th Aug.  Yesterday I started to take a picture and noticed the snap button missing. Now I have a choice pay $90 to receive another phone or not use my camera. AND if I send my phone in for replacement and it is decided the missing button is physical damage I will be charged $600. Im glad it was not the power button that fell off!!!!!

Can any one tell me where I can purchase a snap on button for the droid x (3week old) that does not cost $90-$600 dollars!!!!

Its not physical damage unless you really dropped it. I had the same issue with a droid eris and it was replaced because it is covered under warranty. Only if phone shows signs of damage then yeah you probably will get charged. As long its a legitimate button fell off, you are good. Dont be afraid of getting it exchanged.

As stated, unless you dropped or banged it, it will be covered by the warrenty. If it was your fault, then you are actually in luck (or will be). Froyo will include a "on screen" shutter button when it is released. So you will not need the actual mechanical button.

From the worry that has been expressed about being charged full replacement price I'm going to venture a guess that there are signs of physical damage on the phone.    If there isn't any damage and you still have the Camera Button, you could try some strategically placed super glue.

I wouldn't recommend using super glue at all. I am pretty sure once you turn your phone, the warranty department will see that super glue was used or something is off.

The phone is in perfect condition. I was so blowed away by the amount of $$$, they wanted for the deductible and only had the phone for 3 weeks.  The rep. at the store did not even look at my phone. Just informed me (after I told him my button was missing) that it would be considered "physical damage."

Then customer service (on the phone) informed me of the cost of $600 if they considered it to be physical damage. I have been a customer with Verizon for over 15 years, never had a problem that was not resolved in a professional manner.  But this is a different story. When my contract runs out on all 5 of my phones I will cancel and find another carrier.

Really not sure if this will help you and I don't know if it was an application that my son put on my phone but when I take a picture I tap the screen twice and it takes the picture just fine.

I have been told that the upgrade 2.2 will have on screen button to take pictures.

Yes it does have the shutter button on screen.

As for the rep at the store, it sounds highly suspect that they would not take to time to look at the phone if you made a trip up to the store.  If they did not look at it I would have insisted that they do so, or speak to a manager.

Maybe the button fell off, maybe you dropped the phone and it popped off, we will never know for certain.  This is a case that should be settled in person at a corporate store.

As for threatening to take your business elsewhere because of this, good luck.  Sprint calls bad phone updates physical damage, T-Mobile has crap coverage area and won't stand behind their products, AT&T just sucks in general.

Go to a different Verizon store.  I received my X on Aug 9.  I purchased a combination case/holster at the Verizon store that same day.  On the 11th, I noticed that my camera button was gone.  I stopped at a Verizon store on my way home from work and they took one look and immediately ordered a new phone for me.  I received it the very next day (the 12th).

Motorola is going to fix my phone, no charge . They said verizon should have replaced it no questions asked, because I was in my 30 days. I explained them all that verizon said and I quote buttons missing IS considered physical damaged It does not matter if you dropped it or not.

Wow. Guess all ends well with Motorola fixing it at no charge.

I have had the same problem with the camera button disappearing...TWICE!. Picked up my phone on Friday 9-10.  Went to use camera the following morning and NO BUTTON!  I couldn't imagine what I had done.  Hadn't even taken the phone out of the house.  Brought it back to Verizon Store. They ordered me another phone.  Recieved it today.  Had it activated at 1PM at Verizon store.  Tried to use camera at 6PM and--no button!  I am going to verizon store tomorrow.  I will advise as to outcome.

There are tons of complaints about that button. Even the initial media reviewers hated the camera button, complaining it was hard to push and screwed up the shots. Sounds like a MFG problem. VZ should be taking care of their customers on a phone that has only been out for 2 or 3 ship dates.

If all else fails, you can still pick up equipment insurance within 30 days that supposedly covers even water damage... so I'm sure it would cover a button problem. Assurion, the insurance carrier, ships replacement next day. I had two defective T-Mobile Blackberry 8900s that were replaced without any hassle.

Like someone else said, I'd try a different location first. So far as phone support... Unfortunately, there are a lot of incompetent people in tier 1 positions. Say thanks, and hit redial, chances are you'll get someone with a brain eventually, and you can always politely request to be transferred to 'tier 2 support' or a manager. I' ve had better luck requesting tier 2 support. Just knowing their is such a thing puts you at an advantage over most screaming, cussing morons... You really do catch more flies with sickly sweet syrup than vinegar. 0:-)

Before I decided after 10 years with T-Mobile that my coverage (in a suburb of Sacramento, CA ... The capitol city of California less than 20 mi from the GoverNaTor's office!) was never going to get better... I tried the Samsung Vibrant android and there were two things I really didn't like about the Vibrant-no camera flash AND I hated the onscreen camera button. Ifound it very difficult to hold the phone steady with one hand and push a button on the screen at the same time.

BTW, T-Mobile's Vibrant, at least as of two weeks ago didn't have Froyo at all...any version... It was running...something else... I hate to even say this but I think I remember it said something like...'cupcake?' Whatever version it was it wasn't froyo and T-Mobile users were upset because they had been told they'd have froyo by the beginning of summer and now couldn't get a straight answer from T-Mobile support. SO... you've been forewarned ... things atte far from rosy on the T-mobile side of the street!

I understand about the issue with the camera button falling off, on release day I picked up my device and I bought the hard case/ holster combo and upon getting in my vehicle I decided to check the camera quality of the camera but when I went to press the camera button and the button was gone. After entering back into store and talking to rep to figure out what to do about the button missing I decided to back track all areas accessed during sell and we found the button on the counter, it appeared that when the tech placed case on the phone the case added force on button and caused the button to pop loose if the case is placed on correctly.  Lucky enough it was undamaged and just clicked back into its slot.

Now I use Camera 360 and I use the feature to focus and take shots by touching screen, I almost don't even think about the button any longer.

Same issue!

I have a Droid X and the camera button fell off.  I also have the hard case holster combo!

Seems to me like there should be an easy quick in store fix for something like this.  I guess I'll see if I have to go through Motorola too tomorrow.
