Camera flash kills / shuts down and locks up Droid Charge

I'm getting this almost everytime I take a pic and the flash goes off. The screen will go black right after the flash goes off and I have to pull the battery to get the phone to do anything. Thoughts?

I have this issue too. My phone locks up after taking 1 or 2 photos and I have to restart phone.  I had the same problem with my Droid 2.....one of the reasons I changed phones.

Secondary issue.....just purchased a Kia Sorento car with UVO and the bluetooth is having issues with audio streaming.   Anyone else experiencing this.

I am on my 5th phone. I have been having problems of dropped calls I can here them but they can not here me, and I will be taking pictures and it shuts down. I have to pull the battery to get it to come on again. I think this is the worst phone I have ever had and verizon tech support is no help. They recomended the phone and it sucks.

Mrlarrypearcy, no one likes having issues with their phone and I’m here to help! I know I need my phone to be working properly at all times so I understand your frustration.

You mentioned that your phone is powering off when you use the camera. Does this happen every time you use the camera or is it random? How long have you had your phone? Did you notice this issue start after the recent software update?

We may need to replace the phone if it is still under warranty and there is no physical or liquid damage. But first we need you to perform a hard reset http://bit.ly/w21WpW to see if that fixes the issues you are experiencing.

If you are still having issues with the camera turning off your phone send me a DM with your name and mobile number so I can further assist you.

WOW!!! Almost a year since I posted about this and it is still getting posts for the same exact issue. Verizon Customer Support, have you not learned anything? You clearly can't fix this device and replacing them is giving the same results. THE ONLY WAY TO FIX THIS IS TO GET SWITCHED OUT TO A DIFFERENT DEVICE. I have been reading all your posts for 11 months there has been a lot of talk about bad batteries and software updates BUT it is still popping up. DEMAND A REPLACEMENT TO A DIFFERENT DEVICE (be polite but firm, ask to speak to managers, and don't expect replacement accessories). I have had the Samsung Galaxy Nexus for 8 months and LOVE it. Ask for that as a replacement. TRUST ME I'M NOT TALKING OUT MY ASS LIKE THE VERIZON CUSTOMER SUPPORT IS, GET A DIFFERENT DEVICE OR TURN OFF YOUR CAMERA FLASH FOREVER.

I have this issue as well with my Droid Charge, though it appears to happen randomly. About once or twice a month, I'll take a picture, the screen will go black, then it remains totally unresponsive until I do a battery pull.

I've had the SAME exact issues for the past year with my Droid Charge. I'm now on my I Think around 5th Replacement... and SO FAR this one is working - SO FAR!!! My original Charge didn't act up for the first month, well the area I was in had a tower down so it might have. But the first thing I did with my Last replacement was take a picture with the flash on & as soon as I did it shut down and I called them and sent it right back. So far - SO FAR - this new "like new" replacement seems to be working and the Only crash I had was the browser. I added my apps back on slowly just for sake of seeing if there was an app causing issues, but I only use very few anyway and about 10 max. Right now I have it with all my apps on it and it's so far stable. When I got this replacement it was supposed to have everything else too, but I guess they shipped it all separate and the battery never came... so I had went to the VZW store and got a replacement battery and they shipped an SD card too because my first Charge fried it - Literally... got so hot it never worked again...

So I'm working with a new "like new" phone, brand new battery, and brand new 32gb SD card and in 3 day it will be a FULL MONTH of a working cell phone. Smiley Happy  I'm hoping that it will continue to work because honestly I like the features. It's still a little getting used to actually being able to take a pic WITH the Flash. The other ones I had that feature was a guaranteed shut down and I had to actually take the battery out of the phone and put it back in in order for it to even think of turning back on. If this one acts up though - I'm changing devices completely!! This time I'll read the forums first and make sure I'm not going from one headache to another.

still no solution for this from verizon?   just so you know, this can happen both with and without the flash being active.  on a fully or partially charged battery.  Latest one just happened again and got progressively worse with each battery pull I did, so that after the third one, every time I restarted the phone from thereon out, I could not even take one pic without the phone dying.

how about a solution. now.

Elvisruns,

A few folks have fixed this exact problem with a new battery.  Get a NEW battery but FIRST charge it overnight BEFORE you use it in your phone.

Any new battery should be charged overnight before using it for the first time.

PS, Notice the in the post prior to yours, by ExoticDiva77, he or she emphasized that their replacement phone had a "brand new battery."

Elvisruns,

Why isn't it a fix???

PS,  The following is a quote from a previous response to this thread.

Right this moment I have my 2600 mAh battery installed about 70-80% charged I took 1 pic with

flash off ( were it was set from my last use ) pic good and saved, 1 pic with it set to auto and

the flash didn't go off but pic was good and saved, then one pic with flash set to on and it

blacked out. Between each pic I took the time to change the setting and take a focused pic. I let

phone sit in its useless state to see if anything will start happening and nothing. Pulled battery

and restarted device.

Then I decided to plug in the charger while it reboots and once rebooted take a few more pics

(with and without flash) and no problems. Unplugged charger and took about 5 more pics and it

blacked out again. So I guess that kinda maybe says it can't pull enough power from the battery

to keep the phone running during pictures with flash.

Get a different phone.......................

I had 3 batteries for mine and over time ( less than 12 months ) it didn't matter what battery I was using the phone

would still randomly mess up when flash was used.

The point is that with the Droid Charge you can do whatever you want to try and stop it from messing up but you will always be just waiting for then next time it inevitably messes up.

I bought a Galaxy Nexus and it's been a wonderful device.
