Camera issues Droid X

Alright so when I touch the "camera" on my home screen and it goes into camera, the image goes in and out, so I can't really even see what I'm trying to take a picture of because it will fade in and out. I try to touch and drag the little menu out of the side of the screen but it won't even let me do that. So I cannot adjust flash or anything else. When I hit the menu button the little menu pops up at the bottom but it also flashes on and off, but I was able to click on settings and all that was there was 8MP and what not adjustments... The flash won't work correctly either. Whenever I touch the red camera button at the top, it will act like it's about to take a pic but then it just starts going crazy the screen shows clear picture then dims and goes away for like 1 whole second then it's back on again. When I take a pic, it won't even show that I took the picture but if I go into my gallery later, it's there. Should I take my phone to Verizon? Me and My mom are on a plan together and we both have the same phone, we upgraded to this phone and ordered online, and we both got certified used phones. If I have to take it..will they make me buy a new phone since this one was used? Any help would be awesome!

Kinda hard to isolate your issue - but it sonds like you're using the Stock camera app, right?

I would first run a CLEAR CACHE procedure, then reboot and test again. If you still are having an issue, the next step would be to run in SAFE MODE to see if there is a 3rd party APP causing your problem. So let's start troubleshooting by doing the following:

 Wiping cache partition

  • Power off
  • Power On Holding Home Key
  • When Andy with Exlamation Point Shows up Press BOTH Volume keys
  • Use Volume Keys to navigate to "wipe cache partition" and tap power button to select
  • Wait for it to finish and select reboot system

If that doesn't solve it, boot into SAFE MODE:

- Power off.

- Press & Hold the MENU button

- Press Power up - but continue to hold MENU button

Phone will eventually come up and say SAFE MODE in lower left corner. Test your Camera without launching any other APPS.

Report back your results.

To get out of SAFE MODE, just powerr off/on as usual.

good luck

I hate to say that neither one of those worked :smileysad: I just don't understand it. And yes, I'm using the camera app that came with the phone. I haven't downloaded any 3rd party apps for the camera.  When I put it in Safe Mode, I thought it was working, but, the picture was only good and clear for maybe 3 or 4 seconds, then it started it's flashing on and off again. I tried taking a picture, the flash came on and it took a pic as normal. Which is hasn't been doing. So I tried to take a 2nd pic, and it did as it always does now and the picture goes off and on off and on and the flash flahes once the red button at the top for the shot is pushed down, but it doesn't take a picture. Or at least it doesn't show that it's taking a picture. And the screen is still going off and on while I'm trying to push the button down to take the pic. I press down a little to try auto focus, nothing changes, and press down all the way for pic, nothing changes either.

It almost sounds like you're having a focusing issue - and auto focus isn't locking in on the picture. Can you get into the SETTINGS for the camera? If you can, list what settings are set to. e.g., do you have "FACE DETECTION" turned on?

Another options is try a 3rd party  Camera APP which has more customizable settings. e.g., Vignette is the one I use. There is a FREE (trial) version I believe.

I just downloaded Vignette like you suggested and I can take pictures just fine. So I guess that is what I will use now. It just kinda sucks that I paid for this phone and my main camera won't even work. Why won't it work but a free app downloaded will? And yes, I had face recognition turned on. Here are my settings:

Picture Resolution- Set to Widescreen. options of widescreen, Large 8mp, Medium 5mp, small 3mp, tiny 1mp

Video Resolution- set to high definition 720p. options of 720p, d1 (720X 480), VGA (640X480), CIF (352X288), QVGA (320X240)

Face Detection- Box is checked. I tried it un-checked and that didn't make the camera work either way.

Exposure- Set to 0.

Shutter tone- which I dont have enabled.

That's all for the settings.

Also, I'd like to ask you about something else. You helped that one guy with problems he had with spacing while texting and I had that problem too, your answer was to disable word prediction. I did that, and my text messaging improved and was able to use space without consequence. For about 3 days. NOW if I use a period, comma, explanation point, question mark, or any symbol, it will freeze my keyboard on whatever symbol i pressed and the keyboard will not go away. If I hit the back button, to exit text messaging and go back to home screen, my frozen keyboard is still there. I have to turn myphone off then turn it back on to get it to go away. Please help me fix this. Im seriously ready to just smash this thing and beg my mother to buy me something else even though she just bought me this phone earlier this year. Please help it's driving me insane!

Also, this is Sweetheart86, the one who originally posted this problem, I'm under a new name because I had a problem with that account.

As far as the camera APP -- you ARE using the camera's hardware, even using Vignette ...  you're just using a different APP that apparently is working better than the stock app

Now as far as the TEXTing / Keyboard issue ...

- If it is reproduceable, does it function when in SAFE MODE? if so, you have a 3rd party APP that is causing the issue.

- Have you tried the CLEAR CACHE procedure?

- If that doesn't work you might want to consider going into a Factory reset --  many people recommend doing that before upgrading to GB.

If you can't find the procedures for any of those pof those using Search, give a yell out.    Good luck.
