The most annoying thing to me about the Droid X is how long it takes the camera to load. No matter if I press the camera icon on the screen or press the red camera button it takes at least 5-6 seconds to load. But it seems like when I don't want it to open it opens all the time.

How many apps do you have running because that sounds like a low resources situation, when I take a photo mine loads preatty fast, try rebooting and then allow time to complete reboot and the take a photo, if the responce time is better I would say try Advance Task Killer.... Also I will point out that some think that task killers are bad ideal but I have ran one for almost a year without issues, just set to ignore system files and it works perfectly.

I also agree with Wildman - it sounds like other Apps that are running are "stealing" your CPU. To verify this, you could put the camera in SAFE MODE and see what the response time is for your camera. Putting it in SAFE MODE reduces the amount of 3rd party "clutter" that will run and give you a better idea if the lag in response was introduced by something you installed. (BTW, has the camera ALWAYS been "laggy" to start up? Which Camera APP are you using?)
To get into SAFE MODE:
- Power off the phone.
- Press & HOLD the Menu button
- Continue to HOLD the Menu button & power up the phone - continue HOLD Menu button !
the phone will eventually come up and say "SAFE MODE" in the lower left corner.
test your camera -- if it is "normal", you'll need to research just what you installed & are running that is taking up the CPU. There are various tools to do that research. I use SYSTEM PANEL .... I paid for the full version which provides a MONITOR to track issues over time.
For me, I do NOT nor never have run a TASK KILLER app of any kind. I'm on the other side of the fence that says operating systems are better suited to manage their memory. If/when I notice performance issues, I use SYSTEM PANEL to research what might be causing the problem and address it at the specific APP level. YMMV
Good luck.
