I was wondering what plans are needed to use exchange support. I would appreciate responses from people who have success, or have had failure, what data plans do you have?
Thanks,
Eric Seipel

As a consumer, all you need is the standard $30/month data plan, period. Others, and even Verizon sales reps, may tell you that you need to pay an extra $15/month for Exchange service, but you don't. That only applies if you have a business account, in which case your business would be paying for it, and you wouldn't have to worry about it anyway.

Does the standard data plan (email and web) allow unlimited web browsing?

It does, sort of. It's "unlimited" up to 5GB per month. While technically this means it's not truly unlimited, it may as well be, because there's no way you'd burn through 5GB of data per month on a cell phone, unless of course you were doing something that violates Verizon's terms of service. If you go over the limit, they know something's not kosher.
Oh, and if you're wondering about tethering (using your cell phone as a wireless modem for a laptop), that is not included in the $30/month data plan. That service actually costs another $30/month, bringing the grand total to $60/month. I don't know if there's technically a way to tether the phone without paying for the extra data plan or not, but if you do, there's a much bigger chance of running over the 5GB limit.

The data plan upgrade to use the droid is mandatory when you use that phone. THere is no extra charge for exchange support as its supported by the google OS out of the box. It works well and is easy to setup. You may ned help from your IT dept for mail server settings and domain settings though.

"Out of the box" Exchange support was a big selling point for us as we dumped ATT for Droids. However, I keep getting Authentication Error, incorrect username/password using the native Email client on our new Droids.
I've checked all settings/SSL/etc. 800 times and nothing is being entered incorrectly.
Moreover, the Touchdown email app from the Android Market connects to this account and at least provides email service, no problem at all; so we have all our login IDs, passwords, SSL, correct, for sure.
There's a theory about p12 certificates over on the Motorola boards; perhaps someone can confirm or deny this one?
Thanks for sharing your experiences, solutions, as you find 'em. Will certainly provide the same from this end.
