I'd like to know if 1. I can tell by the phone's model number if it has TFT or AMOLED? And, 2. Can I return the incredible if it has TFT, not the AMOLED it was advertised to have?

Umm...not going to lie, I would demand a new phone, replacement, refund, compensation...something.

Ways to tell : It's hard... But appearently the color is less vibrant, so find a friend that has had the phone for a long while -- And compare colors, etc.. hell, even watch the same youtube vids, etc. You can probably even compare to the in-store phone.. given they don't replace the store phones.

If you are pretty sure it is NOT AMOLED like you wanted/were told...  .. I'd take every measure possible to get something out of it and then some.. not to mention..spread the word.

It is just a rumor though... I can't see them (HTC) doing that, especially since everyone is still fighting with delays and all these set backs.. But I'd be in their(Verizon in this case) face, personally, if I was lied to about something I paid all that money for PLUS a monthly payment that I only use like 1GB max, I'm sure... Haha

Short piece on the subject not that it give too much info.

Here's what I would do... Find another Incredible owner either a friend, or an employee at a VZW store. Go to the same web page and compare screens. Then take it outside and compare light on the screen.

I'm willing to bet it won't be a big difference if any at all. Not to mention it's a quick test that any VZW employee will be happy to let you do if you claim you may want to return it.

You do have 30 days...

AMOLED screens ARE TFT screens, but the ways to tell AMOLED and non AMOLED TFT LCD screens is as follows: the colors will look "flat" comparatively, AMOLED screens have infinite contrast ratios, blacks are not only always black, but have NO backlight in the black areas because the way it makes the colors is what makes the light, also. videos will be much sharper because of this contrast ratio. you are allowed to return your phone if it does not perform as expected, but you may be forced to pay the ~$30 fee.
