Can not send email from my aol account when I am on 3G

My HTC incredible was working fine before the V.2.2 software update.  Recently I changed my password on my AOL account so I deleted my AOL account on my HTC and re-setup again.  Everything seemed ok until I tried to send out email while I was on 3G, I instantly got an error message "Unable to send mail. The account setting is incorrect ."  I tried resetting the aol account on my phone about 50 times and reset the phone about 20 times (second phone already) and I still have the same problem.  Funny thing is, this problem does not happen when I am on my home wifi, but it only happens when I am on 3G!  I called AOL to check on my account and I was told there was no changes done to it, I even tried changing my password like 30 times but the same problem keeps coming back.

My daughter has the same phone and she never modify her AOL setting so her account is fine.  I compared my phone setting to hers and found out the port setting for incoming and outgoing server are completely different.  Her incoming port number is 143 and outgoing setting is 587 but my setting for incoming is 993 while outgoing is 465.  When I try to manually setup my AOL setting to match hers (which is by default according to AOL) I keep getting error messages saying the server does not respond to my manual setting.  Boy! I have tried everything I can think of, can anyone out there tell me how to fix this problem please!

I posted the original message and I have finally solved the mystery!  The problem is not with Verizon Wireless but with AOL.  I was told by AOL that they are in the process of moving all their accounts to a bigger server therefore there are a lot of issues with their emails right now.  I addition, my account was hacked into right before I started experiencing the email problems and AOL had put a lock down on my outgoing emails.  AOL told me that once their new server is setup completely these issues will be resolved.

Try this for incoming

  • Make sure you email client supports IMAP.
  • Create a new account with the following configuration options:
    • IMAP server: imap.aol.com.
    • IMAP login: your AOL screenname.
    • IMAP password: your AOL screenname password.
    • IMAP port: 993.
    • IMAP SSL required: yes.

Outgoing

To set up your email program to send mail through AOL:

  • Set the outgoing (SMTP) mail server to smtp.aol.com.
  • Make sure SMTP authentication is enabled for this server.
  • Enter your screenname as the user name and
  • your AOL screennname's password as the password.
  • Make sure the SMTP server port is set to 587.

See if this works

For some reason after 2.2 I had to switch my setting to IMAP for my email accounts.

K.  When you are filling in the areas, are you scrolling down the screen to see all that needs completed?

If so, try these settings, which I think without looking were what you were using.

Also have you tried automated setup where you just enter your email address and password and choose next instead of choosing manual setup?

Incoming

  • AOL Mail POP server address: pop.aol.com
  • AOL Mail POP user name: Your AOL Mail screen name (what precedes "@aol.com" in your AOL Mail address; if the address is me@aol.com, for instance, the screen name is "me")
  • AOL Mail POP password: Your AOL Mail password
  • AOL Mail POP port: 995
  • AOL Mail POP TLS/SSL required: yes

Outgoing

  • AOL Mail SMTP server address: smtp.aol.com
  • AOL Mail SMTP user name: Your AOL Mail screen name (what comes before "@aol.com" in your AOL Mail address; if your address is me@aol.com, for example, the corresponding screen name is "me")
  • AOL Mail SMTP password: Your AOL Mail password
  • AOL Mail SMTP port: 587
  • AOL Mail SMTP TLS/SSL required: yes

it is now December and I still can't get aol messages to send.  I did have an password re-set and and an update on phone that was all about the same time. i keep reading that you can't re-set a password. I tried going back to old one to see if that would make outgoing message work and it didn't.  Have checked all of the settings and still no luck

I finally looked at the AOL site for any info all they say is you can use cell devices to send and receive email.... However there are not any set up instructions.

You will need to contact AOL since the settings we have found elsewhere does not work

I have a Droid 2 and also had a password change and was then unable to send AOL emails from my phone .... this has been an ongoing problem for WEEKS.  I tried every solution I could find.

Then today, a miracle happened.....Under Email Settings, Email delivery, I UNCHECKED DATA PUSH and I can now send AOL emails from my Droid 2.

My Imap settings are incoming, 142, outgoing 25, secure connection, and verify certificate are UNCHECKED on both incoming and outgoing.

Just did another test..... still working..... yeah!!!!!!!!!

Hope this helps others....
