Purchased ringtone, received text msg with tone, followed instructions (touch & hold message until menu pops up) but menu does not have option to save it as ringtone, only just play or delete it.  Can't save it or use it.

TXT

1. Go to Text Messages view, threader veiw that shows the pic preview when its not opened.

2. Press and hold on Pic or Ringer

3. Select Save from the list

4. Now the pic should be saved in SD/Messages folder

EMAIL

1. Open Email

2. At top there should be the number and the words "View Attachments" - Click on View Attachments

3. Now you should have a list of attachments with a arrow next to it if not downloaded.

4. Click file you want to download and you should get a animation where the arrow was that is indicating its being downloaded.

5. Once the animation stops this means file has been downloaded to a temp file to be viewed.

6. Now Press and Hold on file text and a window should open with three options - VIEW - SAVE- and SHARE

7. Select Save from list

8. Once complete it will have a little message at bottom of page that says "File was downloaded to SD Card"

9. Now file will be saved in SD / Messages folder on SD Card.

As I said, the pop up menu does not have "save" as an option.  It has "open message"  "play audio" "view message details" and "delete message."

What you listed is the same as the instructions on the website, and exactly what I tried.

I have no email messages, so that won't work either.

Then try playing the file in the stock player with the Play Audio option and click left menu button and select "use as ringtone" from list because the instructions should be correct.

Thanks for the help. I got it to save just before I read your message, but I guaranteed the instructions are inaccurate.  When I touched & helt the email message, I then selected open.  While it was playing, I pressed & held the icon until a menu came up that said save & I selected that.  No where does it say "use as a ringtone" or "save as a ringtone."  I then went to the ringtone list & selected it.  This is a very new phone, & I just downloaded the 2.2.1, so maybe somewhere along the line they have changed the process & menu options.

Im glad you got it to work but the screen shot is from my device and the menu screen shot is correct and I am running 2.3.340, I believe the diffrence is because in original post you sounding like message was a TXT message but in the last post you said it was a email and the gMail and regular email accounts have diffrent menus...  Oh well, glad to hear you got it.

It will not save it to the Ringtone folder so it is not accessable to be used as a ringtone. I have tried for a week to get a ringtone I bought in the right place so I can use it but I can't. My old blackberry was much much easier and better. This new phone doesn't have half the features.

Heres something that you might not thought of but is the ringer a MP3 because blackberry normally use Midi or OGG, those formates are not supported by most smart phones.  If they are any format but MP3 they have to be converted to work.  Droid X uses OGG for notifications by default but only under stock app.

Here is a link to information on saving a ringtone. This information will apply if the ringtone was purchased from Verizon Wireless Media Store:

I really dont think its how they are saving file as ringer, I really thinks its the file type is the proble, yout instruactions is the same as what I posted but instead on playing file and using as ringtone you press and held on file, if they get same issue after following your instructions I bet its the file not the way they are accessing it.
