Can't install update on Droid X2

I received a message this morning that the Gingerbread update was available on my Droid X2. I was plugged into the charger, the package downloaded, but it failed about 1/4 of the way through the install. I have done a factory reset and still not able to install the update. I haven't been able to find anything online for a manual install package.

Is anyone else having trouble updating their X2??? I'm really frustrated!!!

To install Gingerbread, or any other OS, your battery has to be at 100%. When you were downloading GB while charging, it probably saw that your battery was not 100% charged and stopped. Charge your battery completely. Once that's done, tap on the menu key>Settings>About Phone>System updates. See if that works.

It was fully charged. It had charged overnight and it tried to download at 6 AM. It gave me the prompt this morning and did the same thing. I don't know what the issue could be.

There are several messages on this board about being unable to download Gingerbread. Try doing a search, and maybe one of them will point you in the right direction.

Good Morning!

The latest upgrade to the Droid X2 is still being pushed out. After the first few days a software update typically is not available for 'pull' but only a system generated push over-the-air.  Here are helpful hints and steps for the software upgrade.

Thank you!

I have used your hints and steps but it is still unsucessful. I am going to go to the store and see what can be done. I don't know if it is my phone or possibly another issue.

Try booting into Safe Mode and see if it will complete..

Enable Safe mode

  1. Power the device off.
Note Press and hold the Power button then select Power off.
  2. Press and hold Menu.
  3. Power the device on.
Note Press and hold the Power button for 3-5 seconds.
  4. Hold the Menu button until Safe mode appears (located in the lower left).

Disable Safe Mode

  1. Power the device off.
Note Press and hold the Power button then select Power off.

Customers are continuing to jump ship from Motorola to HTC, Samsung, LG, and even Apple. You would think Motorola would want to stop the bleeding. Since they haven't mentioned any fixes coming to the DX2, I find it difficult to believeany will be coming--at least in the next few months. If there was an update with actual fixes included, Motorola would surely say at least that it's coming, even if they didn't give a specific timeline.

My guess is that Motorola is pinning their hopes on the Bionic to turn the tide. Unless it's a magical phone in any stretch of the imagination, I don't see the tide turning back to them. Had it been a Blur-less, Vanilla Android device,
that would have been the ultimate offense. But right now, they're playing defense. Perhaps when Google takes the helm, they'll change course and be more customer oriented?

You're right....they are jumping ship. I know I will probably be one of those jumping ship away from Motorola. I had a Motorola years ago, before the smart phone jump, and it was built like crap. You could drop it a merely 3 in and the case would come off of it completely. The LG I had after that could be dropped 2-3 ft and it barely had a ding on it. At that time, I told myself I would NEVER have another Motorola phone, but friends were telling me the Droid X was such an awesome phone and I went ahead and go it. Sometimes wish I hadn't but most of the time I have no problem with it. The GB update though is what did me in.....the Moto version of the OS has killed it for Motorola.....Froyo did so much better but when they messed around with GB and changing it around is when they nailed their coffin shut. There is an upcoming phone to come out on Verizon in October which for the life of me I cannot remember the name of me I have thought about wanting to be my next phone, but I can't help but 'god forbid' considering going back to an iPhone when the IP5 comes out. I don't have an upgrade available currently so either way it'll be pricey until I can get my upgrade in place (still a little less than a year left :smileysad: ).

I've heard bad things about the Bionic. Between what Moto puts on the phone to make it theirs and what verizon does to make it theirs, it has become a crap phone. I don't trust any Moto phone anymore. They'll probably be gobbled up by someone else within 5 years and cease to exist soon

@trip360 -  "how do you know when "safemode" is complete?"

OK, back to try to help someone rather than comment/rant on all the conjecture and hate-moto stuff being posted...

@trip360 --  when you boot into "SAFE MODE", you will see "SAFE MODE" in the lower left side of the screen.  At that point you can test the phone in it's "natural" state without any of the 3rd party apps being installed ... which helps to identify whether a 3rd party app is cauing your issue or not.

cool thanks cody. All I needed to know. Then just a power off and power on to stop if I'm correct because it is not in the lower left corner anymore as it was when I was testing it. Too the issues with motorola/verizon, any other carrier or manufacturer is the same. All phones have a software issue somewhere down the line. I've been recently playing with an HTC Incredible 2, the DX2 and my Samsung Droid Charge, and let me tell you ladies n gentlmen...all have somewhat of a software issue. And all have totally diffrent set ups. I guess its just "what issue can you deal with." Also, "what type of OS do you like." In my opinion my girlfriends HTC Incredible 2 has the least amount of issues though. But it runs a 2.3.4 the DX2 running 2.3.3 and my Charge running 2.2.1. Whatever anyone goes with will have their own problems or complaint because no phone is perfect. Which is somthing I have been learning lately to deal with. I'm alright with it and will put up with these issues until updates arrive cuz I'm greatful to own any of these nice phones.:robothappy:

Reading some of these posts, it seems that the Droid X2 is having all sorts of problems with the upgrade. As it stands right now, I would say that you are probably better off with Froyo. If I had the X2 and read some of these posts, I would definitely keep Froyo. Upgrades are not always the greatest, look at Microsoft Windows, for example, some of their upgrades were horrible, like Vista.

The problem he is having is the install, not the download.

@ejuliano - the problem might be that you didn't get a good download, it might be incomplete, corrupt etc. I would think that a day or two you might get a chance to get the download again.

on the bright side, at least the failed install did not brick your phone.

I have been trying every couple days to install this update. It is still not installing. I have downloaded it again and even tried re-installing my phone's OS. It still isn't updating. I am going to go to the store and have them look at it.
