Can't view contacts

When I open my contacts app from contacts or from the dialer, I am able to open it.  But when I choose a contact, I can't view it and the app force closes.  How do I fix this?

I'm having the same problem over the past few days.  Went to Verizon store, and we reset the thing, which is a pain in the but.  It worked for a little while, but is now back to being unable to view contacts.

Hi twingirlsx2,

Accessing your contacts is one of the most important features of your phone! I would be very concerned if was experiencing this issue. It sounds like a third party application is conflicting with your contacts application. Please run in Safe Mode http://vz.to/xdizhy and test. If issue stops while in Safe Mode, I recommend removing the most recently installed third party applications and see if that resolves the issue. You may need to to a factory reset http://vz.to/YA8BX6 and then install third party application one at a time and test for a few hours before next application install to identify conflicting application and remove for good. Keep us posted.

That's what i suggest doing as well Run it in Safe Mode but before Doing that Try doing a System Cache Clear or Try this App at the Link i provided..  b33

For a  DROID X, to clear cache :

  • Power off
  • Power On Holding Home Key
  • When Andy with Exlamation Point Shows up Press BOTH Volume keys
  • Use Volume Keys to navigate to "wipe cache partition" and tap power button to select
  • Wait for it to finish and select reboot system

I have been struggling with this for weeks.  Finally decided to check out the forums and found this.  It was very helpful.

When I put it in safe mode, all worked fine.  I think hotmail was the culprit.

very perplexing issue indeed.  i also am not able to open contacts.  as a test, i tried to open them in safe mode and same issue, will crash back to the home screen when you try to open a contact.  i even tried to uninstall all third party apps to no avail.  this issue did not start for me until after i did the last update from verizon about a month ago.

Thanks for trying, gasnlarson. Can you please tell me what software version you have on your phone? You can find that information by following the steps at http://vz.to/1cugKVO. Also, did you import your contacts from Backup Assistant, Gmail, or through your SD card? Does it seem to be every contact that won't open, or just a select few?

Thank you

i'm running version 45.621.10. i used gmail for the contacts backup. i

still am able to edit and add contacts on line, which i can see in the

contacts list on my phone, but am unable to open any of them to see the

details. It does matter which ones i try to open. the first time i touch

one, it goes back to the contact list, the second time i try one it will go

back to the home screen.

Gasnlarson, thanks for the info. Have you tried to do the master reset on the device? Once completed, please retest and keep us posted?
