I have a Droid X that has various issues. I have been offered a CLNR X2, but I am concerned about the return policy. As I understand it, I can be charged $299 if Verizon determines there is anything wrong with it when I send it back. Is this correct? What are they looking for? My phone is in perfect physical condition, but I hate this policy where someone can charge me $299, but they won't tell me what the conditions are. Has anyone had any experiences with this recently?

well are they replacing under warranty? If so then as long as they get the phone back in normal working order, there shouldn't be any reason for them to charge you $299. I've done numerous warranty replacements on various phones and I have NEVER ever been told I'd be charged several hundred $$'s if the phone comes back experiencing problems. It has problems so that is WHY it is being replaced so of course it's gonna come back with problems. I think the agent that told you that has something confused cause that is really stupid to provide you a warranty replacement and then charge you if the broken phone that's being replaced has 'issues' with it
The more and more I hear the more I don't want to be a Verizon customer....seems they are digging themselves a hole for their customer base. I used to think AT&T was the anti-christ when it came to customer service, but this is getting ridiculous

If it is under warranty and if there is something wrong with it, you should be able to get a replacement (certified like new) at no cost to you.

Mj : as Mortb said if it's under Warrenty an if there is no physical Scars on your phone that they can Detect then your fine why i'm saying this when your phone is returned it goes thru an inspection if it passes an clears it. It goes back out to wear they can sell it Again. If not it goes to File 13 an there's were the Charge Incures.
People needs to remember it may be your phone in all but just because it yours does'nt mean you can abuse it. That is if you have a Issue with it an Expect to get a replacement.

Sent 7 Driod X2's back never had a problem. I was also told each time that there may be a charge. But, never had an issue. You should not have a problem. However, hearing it does raise a level of concern.

bottom line, ANY charge that might exist is merely for items that show damage beyond what warranty would cover, such as dropping it in the toilet and the water sticker changing colors, or your kid decided to make it into a paratrooper and throwing it off the roof. If it is being replaced merely for a problem where the phone itsn't operating as designed you have nothing to worry about,
but for the record I've NEVER been told of any charge whenever I've done warranty replacements

mjschmitt I just want to clarify the certified like new replacement program for you.
The CLNR (Certified Like-New Replacement) Program offers a free replacement for devices with manufacturer defects.
Because we are replacing your device at no cost to you due to a manufacturer defect.
If we determine the issue with the phone was caused by misuse, liquid damage, or unreasonable wear and tear, you will be assessed a charge of [$99 basic phone or $299 smartphone/tablet]. [Note: The fee is not equal to the cost of the phone.]
Since your phone is in perfect physical condition, you would not have anything to worry about.
If there was physical damage, then you would have needed to file an insurance claim (provided you have chosen to have insurance added to your phone) with Asurion.
I trust that I was able to clarify the CLNR process for you!
As always, we thank you for utilizing the community forum!
