Wow, this phone is going to take a long time to figure out. One of my biggest pains right now is getting a usable contact list for my phone to call people. I mean, this is, after all, a cell phone, yes? Exporting the csv file from my Motorola SLVR L7 was a joke, Verizon and Gmail had like 2 million errors to correct before importing it. Forget it, I got a pile of jumble and had to delete all Gmail contacts to clear it. Next I exported my Live Mail contact list and imported that. Much better, however, my Live Mail contacts are primaraly email contacts, although some of them I did put phone numbers into.
When I activated the phone, I configured my comcast email account, gmail account, facebook account, and myspace accounts. Now I have this usless pile of contacts that I cannot ever call, like I joined the Jenna Jameson Myspace fan club and added her as a "friend". So now Jenna Jameson (porn star) is in my phone contact list without a phone number, like I am really going to call or expect a call from her.
I do have real friends in there, my one friend Christa showed up, so I edited all of the contact info to contain her address, phone numbers, email address, etc. Since this contact came from facebook originally, it shows her **bleep** dog as her photo. I have a great photo of Christa that I want to use instead but when I edit the contact, I can choose the picture from file that I want to use, it shows up, I touchs Save, and the account remembers all data added such as address, etc., but the dog picture remains. I see that when I look at the contact, it shows it as "linked profiles": myspace, facebook, & phone contacts.
I don't want to see the dog when she calls, I want to see HER. How can I change the picture on this contact and make it stick? This is frustrating. Thank you.
(Whoa, do not use spell check in here, it goes to an error page and when you press Back, you get an empty field where you typed all this stuff. It did allow me to restore saved data from the post, however.)
How do I change this account picture, help please!

Try this, Go to your contacts & choose the contact you want to edit. Hold & click on the contact & choose Edit. At the top, there will be an icon that looks like a thumbnail with a +, click on that & choose the picture you want.
Let me know if this works for you!

Doesn't work for me. I tried editing the contract and erasing the picture from facebook, then using an existing picture for a new one. It works fine, until you reopen the contact. The picture doesn't stay changed. Another thing that bugs me is that when you select "use existing photo" and you select a photo on the camera, it creates a whole new photo of the area you crop. So if I was to take 10 pictures of my friends, I would end up with 20 pictures in my gallery.

Here's another way to try it, Select your contact - press menu - edit - tap the top left corner where you see the camera icon - choose a pic - then, save
Go to the contact on your phone - tap on their name at the top, there is a drop down arrow
You will then see their name with picture you chose - select it to display
You do not need to remove the Facebook link to change the picture. Let me know if this works!

Are you using the Droid X? I dont see the camera icon or a drop down menu by the name. When I edit the contact and select the picture it asks to either "Remove Photo" "Take Photo" or "Use Existing Photo'. When I finish changing the photo and save the contact, the original photo is still there. Going back into the contact, there is no drop down arrow by the name. The only thing selectable at the top is the Favorites star...

My Droid X is a little different, Shayonte. I unlinked her from the facebook account and kept her as a phone contact. Now I could change her picture and it stuck and stayed that way and I am happy. I guess I really do not need a facebook entry in my contact list. I can always enter the facebook app and send her a message there. It was nice having them linked and having the ability to send a messag to her anyere, phone, facebook, text message, email, etc. but at least now I do not have to look at the dog.
Thanks,
Paul

I can't get mine to save a picture at all, there is no facebook linked to the contact and when I click on the picture I want to use there is no way to save it.
Any other ideas?

i got my Droid X a few days ago and i'm on the fence about it [yesterday i hated it, today i'm lukewarm]. unlike my enV Touch which i LOVED from the first second!
i'm disappointed in much of the user interface - it is clunky and not very intuitive. i haven't been able to get a photo to stick to a contact shortcut either, and as interesting as the contact pages are, having easy access to contact favorites identifiable with personalized photos is high on my list of 'must haves'. and i won't even go into the adventure that was moving all my contacts around.......
i have barely even looked at anything else the Droid X can do, because if I can't get the basics to work right, it's going back. it is updated to the latest version of software, don't know if that's good or bad.
i hate to disable the linked facebook, just to customize the photo. that seems dumb. [or clunky and not intuitive!] as the linked social networks was a big selling feature to me.
i'll keep watching the forums in hopes someone finds a work around, or better yet, motorola patches this...
if anyone solves it, please post it under a new thread with shouting capital letters!!!

I am not sure what the problem is but the Droid X does this simple task with ease. Hold finger on blank spot on screen, wait for menu to appear, add Motorola Widgets, then Conatact Quick Tasks. It will take the photo assigned to the contact, display as many contact items as you wish (phone numbers, text message, email, etc., depending on how large a size you make the widget. Very small widget gives one picture and one number. Larger horzontally or vertically gives two or more contact methods. While widget remains with white frame around it, you can pull and mess with you too.
Ouch, late, have to go to bed. Have fun, the Droid X is the coolest phone I have every had.

Oh, one thing I forgot to tell you. I had some minor irritating problems with my new droid too. I could not do a hidden caller ID, I would get a country code inserted at the begining of the number and of course, that would not work. I also could not sync my contact list with verizon, the connection would always fail. Tech sent me a rebuilt phone which I not happy about. I did a Master Reset one the phone, put back a few things and restored my contacts back from google, and it works like brand new again.
