Charge freezes & drops data all the time!

My Droid Charge freezes on a daily basis.  There is no rhyme or reason, sometimes it freezes when I'm trying to use the camera, or the browser, an app, the phone, or sometimes just on the home screen.  I have to restart the phone to get it working again, and as everyone knows restarting the phone takes FOREVER.  I should not have to restart it every single day.  Anyone else have this issue?

I've seen a few threads about this but the data droppage is terrible.  I will have my phone sitting in the same spot all day at work and it goes from 4G to 3G to no data.  It is extremely annoying that I cannot use my phone when I want to.  I try to toggle the 4G off and back on to get it to connect, but no luck.  It's amazing I have not thrown this thing out the window yet.

Battery life... my battery life used to be fine, but lately it sucks.  I have to charge my phone 2 or 3 times a day, and I would say I maybe qualify as a moderate user, probably not even that.  I do not check or send emails on my phone.  I mostly do some social networking & that's it.   While I sleep my phone will lose almost all it's battery life.  The other night it was at 80% before I went to bed & 8-9 hours later it was at 15%.  How is this even possible?  My phone doesn't do any sort of automatic updating.  I used to use juice defender but wasn't getting any difference in battery life so it's disabled now.  Any ideas before I stomp on this piece of junk one day?

This phone is almost a year old.  I do not think I can take another year of this.

UPDATE:  I factory reset the phone.  So far it has not been freezing, however the connectivity issues continue.  It still constantly drops data, switching between 3G & 4G & no data when I am in the exact same spot.  It is very annoying.

The battery life has been better.  At night it is now only using around 20-30% instead of draining the battery completely.

Is the data an issue with the phone?  Or Verizon?  Should I bring it to a Verizon store for some sort of replacement??

As far as the freezing, do you have lookout or advance task killer? When is the last time you did a factory reset

As far as the data, what kind of work environment is it? do other people have problems with their cell? Have you tried to set it to cdma only mode while at work?

The reason you have to charge the battery so much it sounds like your data is really struggling to stay connected..going from 3 to 4g that much will drain it

I'm having the same issue with data dropping all the time. From inside the house or building and even outside. I do a lot of work online with my phone and it really bugs how often I'm losing data connection.having to reset my phone at least 2 times a day is getting pretty freaking annoying. All i know is Verizon wireless will be getting a call here soon if I cant get it resolved. And also getting static sizzling noise through my earpiece and rear speaker, no clue what is going on with that problem.

I have never been on a community site but I am really confused.  I had nothing really extra on my Droid Charge and strange things happened.  First on the bottom of the home screen when I got the phone and for the last six months there have been the icons for messages, calls, apps and one other.  All of a sudden one day all that was on the bottom was an application only icon.  The other was on the window (not necessarily the home window) I have to scan to get them.  Then all of these game icons appeared.  I don't play games (well, angry birds once and my granddaughter laughed at me so hard because I was horrible).  Also, the last few days the phone freezes when it wants, when I am texting or anytime.  I have to remove the battery to get it back on.  Also the charge doesn't hold anymore.  I am at home so nothing changes as far as where it happens.  Sorry if this isn't the place to ask but I called tech support and no positive results.  HELP  I just viewed what I wrote and I supplied a screen name and It has my name, I do feel good about that how do I change it?

No one else has issues with their phones & we have a variety of networks.  I work in downtown DC there are cell towers all over the place.  I have tried leaving it on 4G, switching to CDMA, doesn't seem to make a difference.  This happens all the time.  I will be with friends who also have Verizon, but better phones, and they will have data & my junky charge won't connect.  So annoying.

I do have lookout, does that cause problems?

I haven't done a factory reset because I don't want to lose the apps I've paid for and the pictures on my phone.

As long as you put in the same gmail all your paid apps are on their server linked with that name so you won't have to purchase them again, pictures will be on the sd card

lookout has the ability to control raido and limit connections.. i have seen it work fine on some phones and cause problems on others, it might worth testing to take it off

I have the droid charge too and mine also does the same exact problems. i never had a problem in the beginning but now my battery life sucks it lasts maybe 4 hours with using it or without using it. my phone freezes all the time and then takes like 5-10 minutes to restart. whenever i try to use the internet my data completly shuts off then my phone has to be restarted in order for it to come back on. i wont recieve a lot of my texts even though it says it went through, i hear a buzzing noise when my phone is charging. any one know if this can be fixed or if i should just go to an Iphone. cause this is  my 7th phone this year. all of them keep dropping the data and having other problems that arent solvable.

Hi lexia037!  It appears you’re experiencing a number of problems with your device, and have tried a number of troubleshooting steps to try and resolve!  I am confident we can get your device working much better.  Just as commonsense101 mentioned, if you’ve installed any type of antivirus or task killers, they can have a direct affect on these issues.  I recommend uninstalling any type of antivirus, battery or data saver applications and retesting.  http://goo.gl/hLP6i  If the problems persist, please test the device for a few hours while powered up in safe mode.  http://goo.gl/pznJi  This will determine if the problem is application related.  I would also recommend hard resetting the device to start the device afresh.  http://goo.gl/LG56h  You don’t have to worry about losing your applications.  As long as you sign back in with your same Google credentials, they can easily be reinstalled.  See your installed applications in the Play Store here: http://goo.gl/IJ1vD  Please keep us updated with the results of your testing.  Thanks!

I deleted lookout, seek droid and juice defender several days ago.  The phone hasn't been freezing as much as it did.  And now when it does freeze I don't have to restart it I just have to give it some time, like a minute to unfreeze itself.  The battery life is still terrible.  Last night it was at 95% before I went to bed & I woke up nearly 8 hours later to it beeping saying low battery.  It's ridiculous.

Also it is still dropping data.  I'll test safe mode for a day or so and see if that changed anything.  If I don't notice a difference I'll do a system reset.  I'll keep you updated.

same problems here. my husband and I both have Charge phones, the text messages between the two of us are dropped on a daily basis. we thought it was the app we had downloaded for texting, so we deleated it, but that didn't work. both SMS and MMS are dropped, we've only had our phones for about 7 months so the dread of dealing with this for another year and a half is awful. Also, i will have a good 4G signal and as soon as I attempt to open my browser the signal will be gone, happens at home and at work (which are 16 miles apart),,,so i don't think it is just an issue with the phone. It will go from 3g to 4g to nothing and my husbands does the same. We both still have lots of memory so it isn't a memory issue it is a Verizon issue. I don't have an issue getting text's from anybody but him, so it has to be the stupid phone. i want my blackberry back, droids stink.

Hello again Lexia037 as well as Kvnsgirl!

I'm sad to learn you both are still having ongoing issues with your equipment.  I really apprecaite you taking the time to remove those applications from your phone, though it appears it only stopped some of the difficulties.

As recommended before I truly would recommend a Hard Reset of your equipment. I know it's never fun to start over, but sometimes files from previous applications remain on the device memory and continue to cause issues. The instructions can be found here: http://goo.gl/LG56h

If for any reason your difficulties with service/signal continue I would highly suggest to get a new sim card as it could be the card itself.  We can order one for you or you can visit a local Corporate Verizon Wireless store to pick one up.

Please let us know if you still need assistance!

Thank you
