Charge last week + keeps dropping to roaming

Last week, 4 times to be exact, my charge has dropped to roaming to the point where voice wouldn't even work

First 2 times soft reset(battery pull), take sim card out, fixed the issue.

Last 2 times had to do hard reset to get the phone to work.

Also, another issue, the phone refreshes the home screen a number of times a day while using it(all icons, widgets disappear then reappear after 2 seconds), not the end of the world, but annoying.

Are these issues with gingerbread on the phone?
