Charging my Phone

I just got new phone today.  When I charge my phone, it is blank.  How do I know when the phone is done charging?  There are no indicators reflecting that the charge is complete!!!

If the phone is turned off when you plug the charger in, the screen will be blank for a short period, then show a battery picture which visually indicates the current charge level (green on gray) for a few seconds, then blank again.  If you press the on button briefly at some later time, that battery indicator will relight briefly with an updated charge level.  I think it will show a 100% indicator or something if the battery is fully charged.

If the phone is on when you plug the charger in, the screen behaves the same as without the charger in, except that the small battery icon shows a lightning bolt and the charge level  in the icon changes to show it's charging.  It will still time out to blank, etc.  I think there may be a 100% indicator near the top left when you get to that.

If the phone is on and you plug the USB cord into it and your computer, you get some other stuff related to USB.

I hope you're seeing something like one of those.

Silly questions but here goes: Did you put the battery in the phone first? Did you insert the SIM card? Did you press the power button on the phone (screen facing you with Samsung logo at the bottom, power button is on the upper right-side of the phone).

It would be helpful for you to provide a more details on what you see (or expect to see and don't) when you are charging the phone.  The normal setup is that you should see a battery icon in the top right of the screen, showing both rough charge level and that the phone is charging.

If you screen is completely black, I would check the screen timeout setting.  On the home screen, press the bottom left (menu) key.  From there, select Settings/Display Settings/Screen timeout.  Choices are from 15 seconds to 10 minutes.  But I am also thinking that this setting applies only when you are NOT charging the phone, so if it is black on the charger, there may be a hardware issue.
