Charging twice a day since 2.2 - New Battery

A couple weeks prior to getting the 2.2 update, my battery life was shortening quite a bit.  I was hoping the update would improve battery life, but actually made it worse.

The battery seemed to get really hot, (extra hot), when charging, so, I bought a brand new OEM battery.  I am still having to charge TWICE a day.    I only get about 5 hours out of a charge with no more than what I would call moderate use.

Bluetooth and WIFI is off. GPS is on.  Gmail set to push, A couple other alerts set to 30 minutes.  I have one widget that updates via internet (Sportstap), but I have always had it.

I've tried removing apps that might be trying to draw power, no good.

I'm curoius if I have more than a 2.2 update draining my battery.  Maybe the phone itself developed an issue that is draining the battery?

I got the phone in January, is there a 1 year factory warranty that should take care of this?  This is ridiculous! I'm afraid of using my phone because I need to save power for situations where I really need it.

Before you put it on the charger again, check Battery Use under About Phone and post your results.

I had a taskiller, I uninstalled when the battery issues started after reading some people say it kills the battery more than it's good for

If you haven't try setting your screen to automatic.

It uses the ambient sensor to determine the most efficient settings for you.

I have it set to about 1/3 brightness on the slider.  I thought the auto-brightness function itself might use more power.  I've been trying everything

I am unsure then because my screen uses 37% and my browser uses 25% and I get a 8 hour hold.with nearly full use. It might be a phone issue too.

Have you tried cleaning the battery connector? There has been issues with that in the past, and that could cause loss of power.

yeah, I don't see anything there that should be causing you to only get 4 hours of battery life.  Is it showing that it's charged all the way to 100% when you take it off the charger?  It's possible that the phone could be getting to hot causing it to stop charging.  I've only seen that happen with the phone in the car mount and using navigation though.  The only other thing to try is a factory reset but then you'll have to set up everything again but that'll be the case if they send a replacement phone anyways.

I AM NOT AN EXPERT.....but it sounds like a software issue to me. Especially since it started before your downloaded Froyo 2.2, though it seems to have accelerated the problem. It doesn't sound like you are doing anything to cause the drain.

One Question:

Did you condition the new battery after you got it? This entails, charging until full, and not when it says charged 100% on the screen but when the led indicator next to the micro USB port goes off, then using the phone until the battery reads 5% or less, then charging it up fully again. Do this 2 or 3 times, and it should help the battery. When doing the charging cycles, it's important to charge the phone up without power interruption. It's kind of a pain in the **bleep** but it's only for a couple of days. Let me know how you make out.

Good answer. ANY rechargeable battery should be "conditioned" regularly, despite what they tell you in the store and the ad blurbs. Even Li-ion batteries develop memory, and since they're partly charged when shipped ( just enough to survive the long boat ride from China ), they need a full conditioning right away. I do mine monthly -- just let it go almost completely dead until you get the last chance warning then charge it fully.

IMHO -- many of these short-life battery posts may be the result of too much multitasking -- e-mail, facebook, messaging, games, etc., etc. all day and all at once. Some people might actually need a car-type battery in a backpack connected with a huge cable. :smileyhappy:

(This thing won't let me sign in with my original user name, so I had to make a new one. I am the original poster)

Yeah, no problem for me to wait till it's at 5% battery life, its every 4-5 hours.  I charge it till the light goes off, just no luck.  I guess I will have to bring it in and hope Verizon can help me out
