Choppy Scrolling Droid

Are there any tweaks or apps that improve the menu / scrolling performance?  It seems a bit choppy...  I like the smoothness of the iphone, I know it's refined, but can't it even be made close?

It could be for a multitude of reasons, the most transparent here would be that it's first release of devices, but let me try and help you out:

How many Apps do you currently have instaled?

If you have any widgets on the home screen, how many would that be?

Are you running any apps during scrolling/moving?

Do you currently have a task killer program?

How many Apps do you currently have instaled?  Not too many, probably 6...

If you have any widgets on the home screen, how many would that be?  only 2...  battery and weather

Are you running any apps during scrolling/moving?  nope

Do you currently have a task killer program?  yes  taskill...

It's not bad, I just thought it would be smoother...  especially when pulling down the 'top bar' for the alerts...

Try restarting your phone, and then ending all tasks that are starting up. It does sound odd indeed, especially since I don't have those issues with my Android device.

If the problem persists, call tech support, or take it to a Verizon rep to see what they can do. The Droid has pretty great specs and shouldn't be performing 'choppy' in the least.

Just remember, you have first released devices, so things like this happen often.

Honestly we went to the store tonight and played with a Droid and yeah it is maybe a little faster but the HTC Hero (they didn't have the Eris at this store they were admittedly not prepared) which we played with at Best buy a week or so ago was easier to use and smoother.  I think, and I am shocked to hear myself say this, I am leaning towards the Eris now.  We are going to go play with one at some point this weekend but if it is as close to the Hero as I have heard with a few bugs worked out then I am in.  The only problem I have is virtual keyboards.  I think I will get used to it but I will probably download betterkeyboard and hope it really is better.  Droid is nice and I love the keyboard but I had problems with the back button and home buttons as well as clicking some things.  If I can get them to let me upgrade a couple of weeks early I may just be grabbing a couple of those cause Sense is much nicer than Android Vanilla.

Friend I don't blame you whatsoever. HTC did an astouding job with the UI they created, and many people, including myself will tough out the 1.5 Firmware in exchange for the functionality of the Sense UI. From my testing, the virtual keyboard works just fine, and freakishly knows what I'm about to type.

Eris and Droid are both excellent phones, and either way both experiences are considerably great. My opinion, Miss Eris is looking mighty fine :smileywink:

Edit: HTC has been doing an amazing job with updating their systems/os for 1.6, if you follow them on twitter they frequently keep up to date with information.

Last twitter I saw said they have 2.0 and are working on porting Sense UI to 2.0 and to me Sense UI with 2.0 features Oh yeah.  I am liking that.  I do have size 15.75 finger give or take .25 and I have a lot of mis types on the virtual keypad.  Though I think the fact that I usually don't have problems with it means that I can filter out the typos.  7 home screens limited flash capabilities and functionality with all apps in the market (2.0 has problems with some of them) Yeah I was waiting for the Calgary but I think Eris may be the phone for me.  I can't wait to play with it.  The guy at the store we went to didn't get them in originally cause he didn't think they would sell (he didn't think it was going to be cheaper he just thought it would be a little lower end sleeker version and no one would want that with the coolness of the DROID).  I never thought I would like a touch phone but the more I hear about Eris and the more I played with Hero the more I think I will like it.  I wonder if I can make a sylus work (that sounds stupid but it would answer my finger problems).

the slight stutter you see when switching screens is def annoying, but not compared to the Hero's grinding to a halt after like 2 hours of use. I had the Sprint Hero from day 1 and I was forced to run an app to kill processes... it's a fine phone once you do that, but droid screams in comparison

I feel exactly the same way.  I've posted this in another thread...  I'm not an apple fanboy at all and I don't own an iPhone, but I have compared the iPhone directly with the Droid hands on and the touchscreen on the iPhone is amazing.  The smoothness of the scrolling and the way the screen responds instantly to your touch is uncanny.  It really feels like an extension of your finger.  The Droid (including the Eris) doesn't have the same feel at all.  The scrolling is a little choppy and I found the touchscreen to be, for lack of a better word, "twitchy".  It's very responsive, but doesn't have the same user experience that the iPhone does.  I'm really reluctant to get the Droid because of this....
