Cleaning the earpiece screen?

Before you reply and say that you shouldn't do it, I am aware that it SHOULDN'T be done, but want input anyway.

Has anyone cleaned the earpiece "screen" on the DX?
If so, how? Did it work? Did it not?

Curious because mine is getting funky.
