Connect to Mac

Is there some special trick to connecting the Charge to a Mac in order to back up files?  So far I can't get the Mac to recognize the Charge as a storage device.

The SCH-i510 can support a mass storage connection to a Mac. In order to perform this task so that files can be transported from the Mac to the phone and vice versa, follow the steps below.

Configure Port Mapping

  1. Press the Home Key
  2. Press the Menu Key
  3. Tap on Settings
  4. Tap on USB settings, USB mode
  5. Tap on Mass storage to connect as a portable hard drive device to a Mac so it can detect the phone as a volume and allow the exchange of files.

Setting USB Debugging

  1. Press the Home Key
  2. Press the Menu Key
  3. Tap on Settings
  4. Tap on Applications
  5. Tap on Development
  6. Tap on USB debugging
  7. Tap on Ok to the message

Connecting To The Mac

  1. Plug the micro USB cable directly into the Mac.
  2. Plug the other end of the cable into the phone.
  3. Pull down the Notification bar and tap USB connected
  4. Tap Mount
  5. Depending on the amount of volumes, one or two drives will appear on the right. Click on one to explore the file structure. When a folder or file is found that you desire to transfer, simply drag and drop it to the desktop.
    • Note: With USB debugging enabled, a window will pop up asking what to do with the connection. Click cancel and close the window out. It has no bearing on file transferring.

When finished, don't forget to eject the volume by dragging it towards the Trash. Note: In System Profiler, the volume should show up under the Samsung Android.

I connect to my iMac without USB debugging all the time.  It recognizes the SD card within about 20 seconds, so be patient.

I will suggest that you should try other USB ports.  Do not use a USB port from a hub, wired apple keyboard, etc.  Make sure you use one of the ports directly on the computer.  If that doesn't work try the other USB port(s).  On my iMac it was port 3 that worked.  I don't know why, but it works great.  Could be a variance in power output or something.

Whenever I connect the micro USB cable it makes a sound, but never shows any icons or messages representing a USB connection. Any ideas?

Dear JaeG,

Some questions for you:

  1. Are you trying to connect to a Mac or a PC?
  2. Are you connecting with the USB cable supplied with the Charge?
  3. Are you connection directly to the computer?
  4. Have you downloaded the Samsung USB driver?
  5. What are your USB settings on the phone?

Thanks.
