Using Droid X  System version 2.3.340 Android version 2.2.1

Love my Droid X but for the past week i have not been  able to open contacts. I can view contacts from the phone tab but am not able to  open the function to make changes or add new contacts. Ive rebooted and also removed the battery and replaced. Havent added any new apps that i  can remember over that time just updateing them as they come thru. Any suggestions.....i'm at my wits end...thanks

To play it safe export contacts from Google if you dont have them backed up before doing this because I am unsure if this will effect contacts.  I dont think it should.

Have you tried clearing the cache on the dialer app? It will probally be listed as BlurPhone or Dialer.

Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All Tab > Dialer and Dialer Storage < Clear Data.

UPDATE: I tried this and is causes more issues than helps...  Cause FC ossues..  Ill research other solutions.

Does the device give any errors when you attemp to edit contacts?

IF ALL FAILS A HARD RESET IS A OPTION..

No no errors. It flashes to a black screen, looks like it's trying to open but then pops back to the home screen...this is really frustrating. A hard reset would be a royal pain in the you know where....thanks

This is strange this is actually the outcome I got when I cleared the data/cache that I posted above...  By chance are you using a cache cleaner app that could have cleared this info without your knowledge?

Isn't  that strange. The only app on my phone that would be related to contacts is DejaOffice. Has never caused a problem before but then apps are updated all the time. If thats the problem is there a way to put back the data. I use the app to sync Outlook to my phone if you or anyone else knows of another reliable app that could do this and not effect contacts i would be game to try it....thanks...Leigh

Have you logged onto Google and verify the information is still listed in the contacts area?  I played around wth several solutions for this and none seem to not effect system...  I simply hard rest to correct the issue.  I usually can identify a nature if a problem and get a solution, but at this moment I cant find a solution to correct a stock device other than a reset at the moment.

One more thing, does this only do this one a curtain contact of all of them.
