Corporate Sync with hotmail account drains battery after gingerbread update

Recently
upgraded to gingerbread and my battery life went from 2 days to 4 hours max. Noticed that two services were running constantly, even when screen was off and "max battery saver" mode was selected. These services are active if you add an email account via the corporate sync, in my case hotmail.
com.motorola.service.main
com.motorola.contacts.data
I used juicedefender and setCPU under froyo successfully (to get to the 2 days uptime above) but this did not help after the upgrade. Had to stop calendar and contact sync for the hotmail account and finally added the contact and corporate sync to the auto end list in task manager. Also set pull schedule for hotmail to 4 hours. Now my battery life is back to about 1 day (again with juicedefender and setCPU), but emails are no pushed to the phone anymore as far as I can tell - still work in pull mode.
Any idea how to stop these services from running constantly w/o killing all the features.

Same problem here. com.motorola.contacts.data eating my battery alive; have to turn off data services to get my battery to last through the night. Also seems to have spawned some process called *wifi* (in addition to the existing process called Wi-Fi) that adds to the consumption.
None of those incredibly active types ever answered you? Bummer: so much for the crowdsourcing paradigm, I guess.
