OP,
Wow! That is really hot! Has this phone ever been exposed to liquid or moisture? If no, since this issue started so shortly after getting the replacement, I would still consider this a warranty issue. Please send me a PM with your name and number and I can further assist you with your options.

Good morning.
If the phone has physical damage due to usage, (watching streamed videos while plugged in), it is not covered under the warranty, as it would not be considered a manufacturer defect. Therefore, you can file an insurance claim for a replacement.
Thank you,

That's INSANE - that just using the device as designed, it overheats and as a result is now defective, and is not "covered" by the 1 year warranty? Just sayin'

The warranty is known for being only for manufacturer defects.

I can post a pic if i knew how to do so. But the temp shows on a widget. Verizon called today from my email and stated I can only use the insurance route. However, I will just use my upgrade for a 4g phone. Any suggestions? Thanks

It's normal for the battery to heat up, especially after 30 minutes of use. Mine gets too hot for comfort after about 10-15 minutes. But I would suggest going to a Verizon store to play with the 4g devices and see which ones you like. That's really the only way to decide.

I use the BatMonX app. I gives the battery level in 1% increments, the battery temp in C, and the actual battery voltage. My x will get up to 37-39 degrees Centigrade when using the navigation/GPS in my car.
Most all insurances have deductibles. i.e. auto, homeowners, health, etc. and in this case phone. However, I think a case could be made for a manufaturing defect if the phone gets that hot when using one of the features that the phone has.
Good luck,

NOT SURE ON THIS but I think Motorola droid x has issues with gingerbread mine over heated twice and froze 2 so they are sending me a droid x2 ... but my phones screen was off in my pocket when it over heated with no apps on ... but if you look gingerbread with droid x doesn't seem to work as froyo work for us ... I would wait and see vzw might be changing there tune for you after there is more issues like your and mine ...

The App is BattMonX. (not BatMonX) And available from the Market. Good App.
This over-heating issue sounds like an Electronic Malfunction of the Phone. I do not believe the Insurance covers Electronic Malfunctions.
Insurance covers loss, drop damage, water. When you use the Web to file a claim with Ausrion, they have a list of questions. Your answers will determine if they cover or they direct you the VZW for service.
The streaming of Netflix movies should not be an issue unless there is an Electronic Malfunction with the phone. I have never had an over-heating issue with streaming. Has anyone had an over-heating issue streaming?
