Hello jayrody,

Sorry to hear you are having that opportunity.  Hopefully, your phone is back up and running by now, but if by chance it is not I can assist.  Bearone21 gave great advice, if a battery pull is not assisting it would call for a factory reset.  You can do this by following the following steps:

  1. Press and hold the Power button then select Power off.
    1. If the device isn't responding to input, remove / replace the battery.
  2. Press and hold the Home key then press power button to turn on.
  3. Press the Power button while holding Home.
  4. From the Android Recovery screen (exclamation point with an android figure), press Volume Up / Down simultaneously.
  5. Select wipe data / factory reset then press the Power button.
  6. Select Yes -- delete all user data then press the Power button
    1. Reset process to may take approximately 1 minute.
  7. Ensure reboot system now is selected then press the Power button.

Please keep in mind this will erase everything from your device.  Since your device will not power on we are unable to back up, so hopefully your contacts were backed up through Backup Assistance and or your Google email account.

While this did fix it, it did not make me happy that I had to wipe my entire phone in order for the update to work. That is why I switched from AT&T to Verizon. They did things like that. I hope to see Verizon overcome these things in the future.

Glad to hear you was able to resolve your issue with the solution given but I figured I would point out for the record that data lost is one of the situations that come with software updates and this isnt related to a carrier, a smartphone is a portable pc and just like your pc you should get into a habit of backing up your data or you take a risk of loosing personal data.

While this does happen, and it is not fun, the nature of an Operating System update is not foolproof. It doesn't matter if it is Windows, OSX(Mac), iOS, Linux(any flavor), or RIM, it happens. When a new update is released, new files are added and older files that would cause a conflict are removed. Sometimes during the removal process, the OS cannot remove a file or folder because of it being in use, somehow it got locked, or it glitched during removal. It happens.

I have had to factory wipe more than one phone for the Froyo update, and while I have not had to wipe for Gingerbread, the possibility is there that I might have too. I have had a couple of problems that so far have been troubleshot to a certain app, so no wipe yet.

Verizon doesn't make the phone, they do not program the OS, they only own the network. Yes they sell the phone, they also test and approve the update, but that is it.

One nice thing about the phone, the contacts have 2 ways to back up (Gmail and Backup Assistant), your pictures are on the SD card which is not affected by the factory wipe, and the Apps that you buy are remembered in the Market, so you don't have to repurchase them after a wipe. The only inconvenience is that you have to reset your home screens, have to reactivate the phone, put in your settings for different accounts, but that is minor compared to a phone that doesn't work.

I am not bashing you here, just saying why it is needed to factory wipe a phone, and that it happens on all carriers. I choose Verizon as my carrier because of the coverage, not because of the phone. I am glad that Verizon does have a lot of choices of phones to try to please everyones taste.

Have a good day
