I have a Droid 1, i am going to upgrade to the Droid X and was wondering, will i have to pay for the apps i already paid for or can they be transfered to my new X? Also, should I right down the apps i have downloaded then down load them on new X or is there a back up i can do to make the transition alot easier. thanks.

They should be tied to your Gmail Account. After the update, head over to market and find those apps you paid for on your D1.
That's my understanding of xfering paid apps.

I just went from a D1 to a D2 a few weeks ago, and yes, paid apps came automatically to the new D2 for me, as they are associated with your Gmail account. (Unpaid ones came to, even some that didn't support the device ).
If you are able to swap the memory cards as well, then it's just a matter of resetting your preferences for notifications, ringtones, etc.
