DROID DOESN'T

justanotherbill

Just got my brand new Motorola DROID to replace my BlackBerry Storm phone.  At first glance the droid is awesome.  It takes some time to get used to it.  But after about a week, I miss my Storm.  There is no way to voice dial with Bluetooth.  Blackberry's contact list let you put in anniversary dates and birthdates on the persons contact info, droid doesn't.  Blackberry allows you to use your Bluetooth to get your turn by turn directions sent strait to your ear, again droid doesn't.  And for those of you who enjoyed using VZ navigator, hang it up Droid doesn't offer VZ navigator. It does however offer the Google version with the very early stages of computer voices giving you directions.  Blackberry allows you to move applications from folder to folder and even hide some folders or applications from view, Droid doesn't.  All this hype and advertising about DROID DOES is full of crap.  Sure there is a lot that it can do but there is so much that it can't. What is up with that?  Im thinking about taking my droid back and reconnecting my storm.

There is a workaround for voice dialing.  There are numerous threads about it.  You can put birthdates in your contacts list.  The Droid comes with navigation on-board and it works great.  I play mine through my radio using a Monster FM transmitter.  It interrupts my Pandora music to announce turns, etc.  I see no reason to hide apps or folders on my phone.

Granted you bring up some good points, however have you tried to do tabbed browsing with your Storm, download the number of apps available for the Droid on the Storm?  Both phones have their goods and bads, but overall I would rate the Droid higher personally.

NONE. Blackberry allows you to move applications from folder to folder and even hide some folders or applications from view, Droid doesn't.  Actually Droid Does.  All you have to do is search the market and you will see that there are two apps to help you with this, one free and one paid (.99 cents i believe) All this hype and advertising about DROID DOES is full of crap.  Sure there is a lot that it can do but there is so much that it can't. Maps with navigation is more accurate and more up to date than VZ Navigator.  I do miss the voices in VZNavigator and the way she would take us down gravel roads when I can see a paved road from the gravel one that goes to the same place and I don't have to drive through someone's farm to get to the road I need.  I do wish I had more options for routes.  My favorite Android navigator was shut down recently because the service they used refused to re-up their contract.  it was far more full featured.

After lots of research on the web on the handsfree calling I came accross the first bit of real help. Inoder to do it with a droid you will need to get a headset that actually copies the contact list to the headset. The headset then uses it's own voice recognition, number confirmation software then sends the number to the droid and the call is placed. I have not tried it myself. But this is the best information I could find.

The Devour does it, with Android 1.6 even, and so does the non-U.S. version of the Droid - the Milestone.

Verizon is negligent in continuing to omit this feature.

verizon is a company that provides cell phone service. they do not manufacture cell phones or the software that the cell phones provide.  that technology comes from the phones manufacturer
