I got this from an article early in the evening....
Supersized rival takes on new iPhone
The iPhone 4 is just making its debut, but it already has a formidable new competitor. It's big, it's bold, it'll handle Flash (eventually) and it's got a cool-sounding name. Set to land next month, Verizon is clearly hoping to give the iPhone a run for its money with Motorola's eye-catching,Android-powered Droid X. Details on Droid X

There are several Android phones that will stand shoulder to shoulder with the iPhone 4G. Depending on how important the front facing camera is to you (until more of these are out not very important to most people). Since the iPhone uses a Cortex A8 on a specially designed chip running at 1Ghz the only advantage it has in the processor department is the specially designed chip which has some advantages over some other Cortex A8 1Ghz processors but not many. So the Incredible, the EVO (arguably the most apples to apples Android competitor), and soon the DROID X are among the top competitors. Basically those 4 phones are close enough that you would have to do some arguing over which is best and it would come down to preferences. Oddly enough the Incredible is the low end of that list which is pretty impressive since it could stand next to the new iPhone quite compitently. The DROID X is just sick.

Very true fezzik. There are tons of Android phones out there. In fact I read another yahoo article just the other day. I think you might be interested in it. Take a look....
"What is the best Android phone? There may only be one or two iPhones available at a time -- but there are more than a dozen different Google (NASDAQ: GOOG - News) Android designs that are competing for the title "Best Android Smartphone On The Planet" -- or "Best Android Smartphone So Far."
We rate the best Androids available today and our top picks should be a quick and easy shopping guide for those looking for a great device."

When will it be available for pre-order?
Will I be able to cancel my order for the incredible since there's no indication of when it will ever be shipped?

Waiting to order ASAP don't know when a pre-order will be, also read where the incredible will be dropped from the droid line up, because of the issue of getting components in a timely fashion.

i assume you are referring to the picture that is floating around the net with the list of discontinued models? there was a response to this in another thread on this forum. to paraphrase, it has to do with vzw changing the sku or something. it may or may not have something to do with the new packaging.

yeah, they changed the packaging to actually include the word Droid on the box and are including 2GB micro-sd cards. The backorder is due to a shortage in AMOLED screens produced by Samsung.

The rep i spoke to said they prob would not do pre orders because Motorola had many more phones shipped and would not have the back order issue the incredible did due to screen components

Soooo if I just got my Motorola Droid - and I send it back within my 30 days, pay the restocking fee, would that mean that I could get the Droid X?

you won't pay penny if you refused the shipment, and you will get your X when in comes out.

I recently seen videos and pictures of the Galaxy S by Samsung that really seem to took a hit at iPhone, the device appears to be a very nice device, sleek, smooth running and the screen appears to be very crisp.. The only thing is that it has no carrier information as of yet...

The Galaxy S will be going to Tmobile as the Vibrant and AT&T as the Captivate. Sprint will also be getting the Pro version with a keyboard. There are rumors of it coming to Verizon too though.

Thanks for reply, I have looked around for a listing of possible carriers but I guess I was looking in wrong places , it looks nice but I think I have had to much of a bad taste in my mouth from Samsung, I just haven't had luck with them and I have been considering the Droid X as being my first Android device.. I have been really fighting the switch but it looks like Android is developing into a item that is giving the others a good run for popularity.
But I do have a question.... I have heard that the Droid X may have a 100.00 mail in rebate and I was wondering do this mean that the device will be 299.99 when bought and the mail in makes it 199.99 or will it start out at 199.99 and then with rebate be 99.99? Anybody have any opions?

It's $199 AFTER $100 mail-in (in-store) or instant rebate (online).
As for the rumored 2GHz devices, they might be nice, but why not wait for a faster one coming out 6 months later that has 2 GB of ram. Oh, wait, what about the one coming out in a year? It's never ending. I'd hazard to say that the Droid X will have more power than the average consumer will ever think about using. Heck, the Droid is probably more than most people would need and with its hardware and a little tweaking , it's just as capable as the recent releases.

I was interested in the Incredible and asked the associate at Verizon about pricing. He said that it was $199 AFTER the mail-in rebate. But, since I've been registered for "new-every-two" for a long time, I'd be able to purchase it for $99. I'm sure it's the same pricing plan for the X.
