DROID X2 Problems

First, let me say that I know that there have been multiple threads for this issue, however, I wanted to create a new one for the fact that I truly want to see how much of a known issue these are that Verizon claims Google/Motorola hasn't notified them of. I am then going to take this thread to them and show them the proof that this is a known issue. I work in IT, and have done the proper troubleshooting steps on my phone, such as hard/soft reboot, SAFE Mode, Factory resets, etc. I just spoke with Verizon tonight and the response I got from a supervisor that the most they can do is send me a "certified like new" replacement for my phone, even though it is still under Manufacturer Warranty. I am completely dissatisfied because this is definitely a known issue, and I have done my research on it. Anyway, the issues that I am experiencing are:

- Phone rebooting on its own (This issue occurs whether the phone is idle, being used in an app, browsing the web, streaming video, and in a phone call)

- Phone consistently freezes, requiring a hard reboot of the device

- Menu, Home, Back, and Search buttons take 3-4 presses before registering

- Icons disappearing off of the screen and then reappearing

- Call button not working (takes 4-5 touches before it registers)

- After a reboot when the phone reboots itself, the indicator light will blink as though there is a notification, but there isn't one. It will stop once the first new notification comes in

- After recording a video with the camcorder, upon playback, it plays as white noise (happens on all videos, there has never been anything in background that would interfere. Only occurs on recorded videos; streaming works fine)

I believe  that is all of the issues that I have experienced with the phone thus far. The issues started a month after receiving the phone. I have been putting up with it, but it has been getting consistently worse. It occurred before any apps were installed on the phone, so I know it's not any 3rd party apps causing the issue(s). Also, there is no damage to the phone, such as physical damage (other than normal wear and tear), no water damage, etc. I would appreciate input, and any other issues that anyone may be experiencing with their phones.

Thanks!

I'm so glad that I'm not the only one "taking issues across the devices". I went from a droidx to an x2 to a replacement x2 with the same issues. The original x crashed with gingerbread and they were all too happy to replace it (clearly they knew it would happen!). Well, the x2 that I received would overheat and restart. When I docked it, it would restart. When the screen was locked and I received a call or text, it would restart! I did the factory reset and all that jazz and ended up with a replacement phone. That phone did the exact same thing. Often times it would lock up and the unlock screen. When I tried to unlock it the slider would disappear and I was forced to pull the battery. I called again and was told that if the same issue was occurring across devices, then it was clearly a software issue and I need to delete all my downloads and add them until the culprit was found! Really?! When I pressed the rep, he told me the only alternative is to look on ebay for a phone that works or wait til my upgrade. REALLY?! Moto clearly needs to get their heads out because the only constant in this is that they are all motorola devices! I had an LG Ally that didn't have those issues! I paid 200 bucks for more phone, not more problems! So, yeah, Verizon definitely needs to listen to their paying customers and not the manufacturers that clearly won't divulge that their equipment sucks! I'm with you.

Thanks! I need more replies like this!! I see there's 11 views to this thread, but only 1 reply. I want to show Verizon that this needs to be fixed. If the issue continues, I will be switching from Verizon back to Sprint. I left Sprint for Verizon originally because their Customer Service began to be dissatisfying. I'm not going to put up with this.

This is a customer peer to peer forum.  Not every person who reads the posts know the answers to every post.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

There is no answer to be known. It is asking for additional input on this specific device's issues. If the post was read clearly, that would be seen.

Last night I experienced a new problem for me, but according to a few web searches it's been around a long time.  I loaded the Sky Map app on my X2 and ran into an East-West orientation problem.  To view the Western sky I have to point the phone toward the Eastern sky and to view the Eastern sky I have to point West.  This is not the old "but sky maps reverse East and West because you are looking up" argument. I physically have to point the phone in the opposite direction and have my back facing the direction I want to look at.  Makes it a little difficult to pick out stellar objects.

EDIT:

I just installed AndroSensor and sure enough, East is ~270 and West is ~90 in portrait orientation.  Just opposite of what you might expect.  But if I turn the phone to landscape mode and point the top of the phone (where the ear speaker and Motorola logo are) East it is ~90 and West is ~270. Motorola and Verizon need to admit there is a problem and fix it.  My X2 is out of warranty so I can't play phone exchange ad infinitum.

My Motorola Droid X2 has never worked the way I think it should have since the beginning of owning it.  After the first 20 days or so I called to tell them it works worse than my X1 they told me they could replace it with a refurbished one.  I laughed and they said that was their policy even though I just bought it and it was obviously not working the way it should.  I decided to just keep it and see if it got any better so I didn't have to get a refurb (which apparently I could get anytime within a year).  Well I finally threw in the towel after about 3 months and took VZW up on the refurb.  Well, the next one had more issues with the screens lagging, apps force closing, text slowness, data connection issues, dropped calls and I could go on.  Well, this past week and a half I've went through 3 phones.  I'm now on my 5th phone and the data connection on 3g and wi-fi periodically drop every 5-10 minutes.  It is ridiculous.  I'm at a loss for words.  I wish I would have never upgraded and  could just get my X1 back and my $100 for the phone and over $100 for all the accessories I bought.  I'm losing faith with my VZW relationship.  I've been with them for about 18 years.  I'm not happy at all.

Well i only made it through two refurbs before throwing in the towel. The

most recent advice i received was to take out the memory card to see if the

phone behaves better. Really? So now i can't use the sd card that the phone

is supposed to support? I realized that all the troubleshooting done to

date was just grasping at straws when all i asked was since i was getting

replacements sent could one of them NOT be moto! I left. Now Im with

t-mobile and wouldn't you know it, my ills have been cured! Lots of

downloaded apps and a full 16 gig card with ZERO issues on a galaxy s2! So

my ultimate resolution scenario was to step away from the fire and stop

getting burned! Good luck with your x2 endeavours everyone!

I could write a book, or at least a dissertation, about my experiences with my Droid X. The disasters after the Froyo and GB updates and what the last mini update did to my phone.

OP, you are not alone. My phone is doing 80% of what you describe. I've done all the song and dances. Refurbs, resets, no apps, you name it.

Participated in ENDLESS debates about why this phone performs as it does and put up with the insults of those that were somehow "lucky" and never had the issues my phone(s) have.

The only reason I haven't purchased another (NON MOTO) phone is that there isn't anything (that Verizon carries) that interests me.

As for pointing the "blame" at Google, I don't. It's not their platform's fault. It's what phone manufacturers do with it.

Learn from your experience. If that means your next phone is made by a different manufacturer, or even a BB, or iphone, don't worry. Moto, Google and even Verizon won't really care because there are plenty more new customers getting "smart" phones every day.

It's a bummer, though. When I first got this phone, I got all of the accessories (dock, bluetooth headphones, holster, case, etc.). It's ended up a major disappointment.

People ask me why I put up with it. Truth is, I am so disenchanted with the entire experience, I may just get one of those free phones and switch to Walmart's "no limit calls and text" plans.

I don't even read this forum, anymore. Just dropped by and saw your post.

Hang in there.

Thank you for posting this... I thought that I was losing my mind.  My phone constantly resets, It freezes in the middle of phone calls (just the other day it froze during an emergency call), and the best is that the battery cannot hold a charge for longer than 2 and a half hours.  I will be taking this with me when I make an another attempt to have things addressed.

The last time they added an app and told me it would solve my issues.
