How do I stop using data plan near the end of the cycle so as not to go over allowance of 150MB?

Turn off data.

You can also hit the power button. When the menu pops up, toggle the bottom option, Mobile Network. Or leave wi=fi turned on. This disconnects the 3G data until the wi-fi is turned off. That's what i do. Dormant wi-fi doesn't really drain the battery all that much. And that way it auto connects to hotspots I use frequently. Since i've had the 150 Meg plan, I have yet to go over 100 Meg a month on 3G.

Which is probably why Verizon pulled the plan lol.

I have seen the opposite when it comes to keeping the WiFi radio on. If I am at home, I leave it on as there isa  constant connection and my battery life is much longer.

But once I leave and forget to shut off the WiFi radio, it seems my battery use goes up dramatically as it is constantly searching for a connection. Thats my observation.

As for the options when using the power button, I forget those are there. Great idea!

Don't forget to change the wifi sleep policy, or it'll jump back to 3g after being idle on wifi for a while! The default setting is EVIL!

To change the wifi sleep policy, go to settings->wireless and networks->wifi settings->hit "menu" and choose "advanced"->change wifi sleep policy. I recommend "never", if I'm on wifi I want to stay on wifi until I leave it's range, no matter what.
