Dial Pad on Droid Charge not working properly

Whenever I call the bank to check my account balance, I tap the dial pad to enter the account number.  When I start to tap the number, the screen goes completely black!!!  Then, when the screen finally does stay on, I'm watching the numbers as I tap them to make sure Im hitting the correct numbers and I keep being told that the numbers I entered are not being recognized, lets start over.  This also happens when I try to call the IRS and FTB to check my refund status.  I get not recognized messages when I enter my social security number.   I have my screen time out set for 10 minutes.  My phone has the latest updates and there is plenty of memory left on my phone.  Last month, I finally had enough and called Verizon.  They sent me a certified pre owned Droid Charge.  Low and behold, the phone is doing it again!!!  Its taking a lot for me to not throw my phone against the wall because I've had it.  If I take the battery out or restart the phone, sometimes it will work correctly.  Is this a known problem with this particular phone?  I know I can download my banks app but I'm only an authorized user so my only way to check my account balance is to call in.

Hello,

I do understand this can be a bit frustrating.  Try navigating to Settings, Sound Settings, and uncheck Audible Touch Tones and test.  If that is unsuccessful, go to Settings, Call Settings, and toggle the DTMF Tone length and test.  Also, if you have a screen protector or a case with a screen protector on it please test after removing as well.   Please respond with your results so I may further assist you if needed.  Thank you.

Frustrated,

TominqueBo has a good idea here but I looked at my phone and suggest that you carry his idea a little bit further by doing this.

Touch settings>sound settings and go down the list of categories to Feedback.  Then turn off (uncheck) everything is this category.  My phone is set this way.

It's worth a try because it is so easy to do.

Frustrated,

I have this same issue many times when I try and use the touchpad and it appears (from what I see) to be oversensitivity of the proximity sensor at the top of the phone.  While this is not the best solution, what I end up having to do is come from the bottom of the phone when pressing a button rather than coming straight on (basically, moving my finger parallel to the screen surface from the bottom rather than coming at a perpindicular angle, which seems to toggle the screen off).  Apart from that, I don't know a way to reduce proximity sensor sensitivity but for all I know, there could already be an app for that . . .

Good luck!

I completely understand, unfortunately:( I can NEVER make business calls if I am required to use the dial pad feature to get prompted or put in account numbers!! I just received my 3rd phone and STILL can not make business calls and now I'm  having two more consistant issues. Randomly, my phone(no matter what the screen is on) just freezes- can't answer calls, can't go to home screen, CAN NOT even turn it off. I had to break a new hard case protector I just received to remove the battery. It happens about 2 times a day AND also, at any given time I'll be on the web and boom! Home screen!?.... FRUUuuuSTRATED along with ya!!!
