Does ANYONE have a Droid 2 that actually works?

I am on my fifth Droid in 6 months and every one has had some core functionality problem: charging, speaker turning off, mute won't turn off, won't answer calls, etc.  My original worked fine until just after the 30 days was up, after which they will only replace with a refurbished model - someone else's returned merchandise.  As the problem I'm currently having is that same that my original phone had, I'm wondering if I got the same one back.

Speaking with the few droid owners I know, not one is completely happy with their phone.  This leads me to wonder just how many people actually like it.  I don't know if the problem lies with Motorola or with Verizon or both.

With such inadequate responsiveness from the Verizon organization, I can't wait until my contract runs out so I can switch vendors.

I have had my D2 since the day it launched, and I have no problems aside from the somewhat lousy camera.

I too got the D2 the day it was released.  I have things that annoy me, like less than stellar battery life and crappy reception when on Alltel towers but nothing like what you are saying.

I had 4 Droid1 units (one new and 3 "refurbished") and finally was able to negotiate a replacement with a NEW Droid2.  There have been a few minor glitches but nothing like what I went through with theDroid1. This phone (so far is excellent) is much better than the 1 and I will see how long this one lasts. I am being optimistic that I will be one of the many satisfied Droid users. I will not accept another "Certified Like New Refurbished"  phone from Verizon. I have had better luck with help from Motorola.  I will send this phone into them for repair if necessary. If this phone dies, I will go back to my LG enV3.  I refuse to pay Verizon $96.00 a year for "insurance" when they replace a defective phone with another defective phone.  That is absurd.

Dad does. I have a DInc, and his 2 was just as cool as mine. Sorry your experience has not been as good; but it does seem odd that you've had 5 in 6 months. Perhaps there is a radiation field nearby causing your phones to go on the fritz?

I just got a certified like new droid 2 for 130 on this site. Works fine. Its my brother's actually. First thing I did is download advanced task killer royo. No freezing issues and no wifi issues. Even better than the iphone he had. It was giving him to many problems.

i have had my droid 2 since september and have had my share of problems but a factory direct reset has fixed it each time when the issue wasnt fixed any other way like a past problem with my music player freezing my phone. i would suggest it as a last resort as you have to readd everything and what not because backups are erased even when they are on the sd card with a reset. but in the end the problem is fixed whatever it may be, for me anyway

9 times out of 10 its the DRIVER not the CAR. If youre on your 6th replacement its something you are not getting because if these devices are horrible as you state there would be millions being sent back. They aren't though. I agree motoblur is not the best icing on the cake but you must educate yourself and be patient. These phones are like computers. EVERYONE configuration is different more than half the time bcz everyone installs different apps.

Just as much as a customer dislikes the company that sold them the device the company dislikes the customers that know nothing about their device. This is true whether its phones, computers or cars.

You don't get your same phone back, you obviously can tell with the s/n & esn/device ID. (you are letting out your frustration at this point and I understand)

Whether its a brand new phone or a certified like new phone, its how you use it, and if you are doing the same things to these phones then you are going to have the same problems. I understand it may not be the same exact problem but you get my point none the less.

Here are some tips

Always start from scratch aka master reset. Monitor the phone BEFORE you enter in your Google account info. At least for an hour to see if it works or as like you say, check to see if there is a HARDWARE problem, speaker/mic bcz those arent SW issues. I see your point if you must keep replacing for hardware issues.

Once you login to your google account...IF all your apps come back , here comes your problem back, this is bad, always stagger the installation of apps otherwise you dont know whats causing the problem

Are you using a task killer and killing lots of apps??? WHY?!?!?! here is your problem... let me ask you, why are you using a task killer??? to save battery? to free memory? bcz the verizon guy told me to? DONT. It doesnt save you battery, sure it frees memory but who said you have a memory problem?? it hurts more than it helps. plus youre no expert like me so how do you know what to kill if i hesitate myself. DONT USE A TASK KILLER unless you have an ERIS or ALLY and you know what youre doing. EG. you killed you microphone app, you killed you dsp, now you have sound problems...

Non responsive touch screens esp during calls is typically caused by 3rd  party apps not made for you phone or screen.

Use safe mode to determine if its a 3rd party app. If you dont know what it is then you dont know how to use your phone. You can ask or look it up but it will determine if its your phone or an app.

I hope these tips help you!!! I wish you a better experience... these phones really are amazing!

My D1 worked really well. I rarely had to reset it. I had it replaced once, when a Verizon Tech had me do a hard reset on the phone for an app related issue and it fried the phone completely. They replaced it quickly.

I got a D2 in August, had it replaced once and 2.2 Froyo seemed a LOT more unstable than 2.1. A small update was issued within days after I purchased and another one last month, I think. I've had it replaced it a couple of times. It slows down regularly, (I have to reset it daily) and the browser won't load webpages sometimes, without a reset. One the plus side, yahoo mail works a LOT more consistantly and the camera is marginally better than before, particularly with macro shots. Signal meter on the upper right of the screen, is always out of whack and sometimes I have trouble getting it to boot up after I shut it down to reset it. Otherwise, I like it pretty well.
