Does anybody have trouble with Droid Maps GPS?

My droid/google maps says "searching for GPS" and often never finds it.  There are times when it will find the GPS signal right away, but more often then not, the "searching for GPS" message remains on the screen until I have to stop at gas station to ask for directions.  Any suggestions?!  Thank you so much for any responses.
